Westzaan is a town in the Dutch province of North Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Zaanstad, and lies about 13 km northeast of Haarlem. Westzaan was a separate municipality until 1974, when it became a part of Zaanstad.In 2001, the town of Westzaan had 2130 inhabitants. The built-up area of the town was 0.34 km², and contained 834 residences. The statistical district Westzaan, which covers the village and the surrounding countryside, has a population of around 4580. Westzaan has the only wind powered paper mill in the world.

1. Zaanse Schans Zaandam
Zaanse Schans is a neighbourhood of Zaandam, near Zaandijk, Netherlands. It is best known for its collection of well-preserved historic windmills and houses. From 1961 to 1974 old buildings from all over the Zaanstreek were relocated using lowboy trailers to the area. The Zaans Museum, established in 1994 near the first Zaanse Schans windmill, is located south of the neighbourhood. Zaanse Schans derived its name from the river Zaan and its original function as sconce against the Spanish troops during the Eighty Years' War of Dutch independence. It is one of the popular tourist attractions of the Netherlands and an anchor point of the European Route of Industrial Heritage . We are taking a massive cycling ride across Holland, from little town Lisse all the way to Zaanse Schans. The way there was easy but the way back was the biggest challenge!

After 10 years of figuring out how can we earn money and travel in the same time. well an opportunity finally came around, we can now travel and work in the same time. Our next stop is Holland, where we start out trip by doing a huge cycling ride across Holland. Before going to the Capital Amsterdam, we thought that we will get ourselves warmed up by getting some bikes and going for a huge ride. But that ride ended up being harder then we thought and created a massive challenge on the way back!

We will explore streets, buildings, food while talking about the start of our Nomad life and our trip to Holland.

The Zaan is a small river in the province of North-Holland in the northwestern Netherlands and the name of a district through which it runs. The river was originally a side arm of the IJ bay and travels 10 kilometers through the municipality of Zaanstad (Zaan City) north of Amsterdam, from West-Knollendam in the north to Zaandam in the south, where it empties into the IJ.

The municipality of Zaanstad and several towns along the Zaan are named for the river: Koog aan de Zaan, Westzaan, Oostzaan, Zaandijk and the city of Zaandam. The river also runs past the Zaanse Schans, a village with historic windmills and houses. It is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the Netherlands.
