Zaanse Schans is een wijk in Zaandam, nabij Zaandijk, Nederland. Het is vooral bekend om zijn verzameling goed bewaard gebleven historische windmolens en huizen. Het is een van de populaire toeristische attracties van Nederland en een ankerpunt van de Europese Route van Industrieel Erfgoed (ERIH). De wijk trok in 2014 ongeveer 1,6 miljoen bezoekers. Het wordt bediend door het station Zaandijk Zaanse Schans, op 10 minuten afstand van het centraal station van Amsterdam. Zaanse Schans is a neighbourhood of Zaandam, near Zaandijk, Netherlands. It is best known for its collection of well-preserved historic windmills and houses. From 1961 to 1974 old buildings from all over the Zaanstreek were relocated using lowboy trailers to the area. The Zaans Museum, established in 1994 near the first Zaanse Schans windmill, is located south of the neighbourhood. Zaanse Schans derived its name from the river Zaan and its original function as sconce (schans in Dutch) against the Spanish troops during the Eighty Years' War of Dutch independence. It is one of the popular tourist attractions of the Netherlands and an anchor point of the European Route of Industrial Heritage (ERIH). The neighbourhood attracted approximately 1.6 million visitors in 2014. It is served by Zaandijk Zaanse Schans railway station, 10 minutes away from Amsterdam Centraal station. The Zaanse Schans houses seven museums — the Weavers House, the Cooperage, the Jisper House, Zaan Time Museum, Albert Heijn Museum Shop and the Bakery Museum.

In its 18th and 19th century heyday, the Zaan region was an important industrial area dotted by hundreds of windmills producing linseed oil, paint, snuff, mustard, paper and other products. Many of the Zaanse Schans' characteristic village houses are now museums, gift shops or workshops while others are still used as private residences. Some of the Zaanse Schans' remaining windmills are also open to the public.

How to get to Zaanse Schans:
Many choose to visit the Zaanse Schans as part of a guided tour or excursion, but the village is also easy to reach under your own steam by car or public transport - just catch the train from Amsterdam's Central Station. A 15-minute train ride will take you to Koog-Zaandijk and it's a 10-minute walk from the station. Just look for the windmills!

Zaanse Schans: a picturesque location in The Netherlands
Zaanse Schans is located in the north of The Netherlands. You can reach this place easily from Amsterdam. The best way is the train, which takes around 30 minutes (check ns.nl for train connections). You have to get down at Zaandijk station and walk for roughly 10 minutes to reach this beautiful place.

Entry to this place is free. The only place where there is an entry fee is the Zaans Museum. If you want to know the history of the region and experience the Verkade biscuit/chocolate making process, you need to pay. The biscuit/chocolate is an merely an illustration and not actual products being made.
One can walk and explore this place full of windmills and beautiful shops. You can also enter the windmills for a nominal price. The windmill tour gives the knowledge about the history and importance of the windmills in the Netherlands. You can try variety of cheese at the cheese farm for free. A beautiful experience indeed.

Los canales, son el rasgo característico de Ámsterdam. Con más de 75 kilómetros, son un atractivo, con sus puentes, casas características, cafés, para pasear por ellos, bien en barco o andando por sus calles, viendo la animación y la vida dentro y fuera de ellos. Son característicos los barcos vivienda, que se encuentran anclados en sus orillas y constituyen un atractivo más y un lujo para sus ocupantes.
En cuanto al barrio rojo, en la mayoría de las ciudades un barrio así, lo ocultarían, pero en Ámsterdam no, y los turistas lo visitan una y otra vez en su viaje. Destaca la normalidad y el buen gusto con que se trata este tema, sin que en la visita al mismo se encuentre ningún problema. Pasean por él todo tipo de gente, hombres, mujeres, familias con niños, y sin problemas. Destaca dentro del barrio el Museo del Sexo, que merece una visita.
El museo Van Gogh muestra la colección más grande de obras de Van Gogh, que se pueden ver juntas, reunidas por su hermano Theo. La muestra sigue la evolución de Van Gogh, desde las escenas campestres, pintadas a partir de 1880, hasta los tormentosos trabajos finales.
La basílica de Oude kerk es una gran basílica gótica, conserva muchos de sus tesoros, a pesar de haber sido desprovista de sus pinturas y estatuas durante la época iconoclasta. Conserva exquisitas vidrieras policromadas, pinturas en el techo y un gran órgano. Hoy día se encuentra en pleno corazón del barrio rojo, pero no hay ningún problema con el vecindario.
