Riding Through Downtown Concord, North Carolina
This short video is primarily for former Concordians who miss this wonderful city and who long to go home if just for a minute on their computer. The video covers travel by car from South Union Street through downtown Concord to North Union and ends at Grove Avenue. It was shot during early February 2011. Your home is where your heart is.
NC 3 and Dale Earnhardt Blvd., Mooresville to Kannapolis, NC
Once upon a time, the road running from Mooresville to Kannapolis bore the number NC 136. NC 3 was posted on a short dead-end road in extreme northeastern North Carolina, not too far from the Outer Banks. After the death of seven-time NASCAR champion Dale Earnhardt, NCDOT reversed those route number designations. Now, NC 3 runs from Mooresville, where Earnhardt built his race team's headquarters, to Kannapolis, Earnhardt's hometown, and NC 136 has been moved to the other route. Part of NC 3 runs across Dale Earnhardt Blvd. in Kannapolis. This video gives a passing glimpse of the Dale Earnhardt, Inc. headquarters and also the Dale Trail, a marked touring route highlighting places key in Earnhardt's life in yet another way his hometown has paid tribute to its late, great native son.

Safrit crowned Miss United States, aims for Miss World
Elizabeth Safrit - Kannapolis native Elizabeth Safrit is currently featured on the Miss World website with women from France, Italy, India, Mexico and other countries. When her biography is posted on the website, Safrit said people have suggested that she list her hometown as one more people know.
“I’m not going to change that,” Safrit said. “I’m proud of where I’m from, and I’m going to take that to Miss World.”
On July 6, Safrit was named the 2014 Miss United States at the competition in Washington, D.C.
“It still feels so surreal,” Safrit said Thursday. “It still feels like a dream.”
It was something she had been working toward for four years, she said.
Safrit competed in her first pageant as a freshman in college in 2010. Safrit said the Miss Cabarrus County pageant needed a fifth contestant, so she agreed to participate without hesitation a week before it took place. She did not win, but she received Miss Congeniality and “got the pageant bug,” she said.
She then participated in Miss Rowan County, her second pageant, and won.
Over the years, Safrit tried other pageant systems until she found the one that was right for her.
“Someone once told me trying pageants is like trying on a pair of shoes,” Safrit said. “You have to try on a few before you find the right one.”
In addition to being named Miss Rowan County, Safrit’s other previous titles were Miss Archdale-Trinity, Miss Kannapolis, Miss Charlotte and Miss North Carolina United States.
