Community Information: Tryon, NC
Calling itself “The Friendliest Town in the South,” Tryon is currently home to about 1,600 residents. However, that number is expected to change dramatically over the next few years.

BHTV: Opportunities Abound for Equestrian Living in WNC -
“When I lived in Florida, every summer we came to this area to horse show. And one summer, I opened a magazine and saw the real estate prices and I thought, ‘Why am I living in Florida?’” says Martha Hall, Tryon resident. “The next thing I knew, I owned property here. I moved here 10 years ago with Elmo and a couple of my other horses and I’ve never looked back. I have no desire to go anywhere else. It’s just the greatest place to live.”
“Here, you know, you can buy so much more and have so much more,” says Martha. “I mean, you’ve got views, you’ve got this land, you’ve got riding facilities, you’ve got trail systems—it’s totally unique to anywhere I’ve been.”
“This area, I think, has just as many good riding days but a more temperate climate,” says Martha. “The [thermal] belt truly is cooler in the summer here and warmer in the winter than up on top of the mountain in Asheville.”
“And one of the things that people look at when they’re looking for real estate is [whether] the property is on a trail system. You can ride straight from your home right onto a trail system,” says Martha.
“The other interesting thing that’s happening in this area that’s very, very exciting is the equestrian center. They put in close to $100 million in this development—so it’s a world-class facility that draws international riders. And it will be a huge mecca for the show population.”
“This is not only a lifestyle here, it's a great community of people with really interesting backgrounds,” says Martha. “You've got a very cosmopolitan blend of people that live here.”
“We love the Asheville and the Hendersonville area,” says Martha. “There’s all kinds of natural resources. We like to hike, we take our horses up to the Biltmore [Estate], we do trail riding in DuPont [State Recreational] Forest—so there’s lots of things to do.”
“You can enjoy the benefits of having all that right in our own backyard.”

Crystal C.'s Review on The Dyrt:
▶︎ Charming Campground
Following highways signs looking for this campground I didn’t know what to expect. I was hoping for a tent site but wasn’t sure what I would find. In this area I had seen many RV parka but few tent site areas so I was pleased to pull up and see tents!
When I went into the office I was greeted by a very pleasant woman who gave me a map and told me a bit about the camp, which included a nice restroom/laundry and pool area (seasonally open).
They also offered WiFi and hiking trails right in the camping facility which was right up my alley!!
I arrived just before the end of the summer season so everything was up and running and it was perfect! The camp offers a small camp store and is also relatively close to other stores in neighboring town.
TIPS:
Opt for a spot a little further away from the office, it is quieter and closer to trails.
Drive slowly on the way out to the campsite, not just on the gravel road but on the main road, there are several patrols right before the turn off which use the hill area for a good hiding spot because the hill causes you to speed if you are a bit heavy. BE MINDFUL!
