Caught the train to Rosenheim which is about 50 minutes south of Munich and then another train to Schechen which is 1 stop back north of Rosenheim. Schechen is so tiny, sparse and quiet - there is 1 train track that is used by trains going both north and south!! ... when you only get 1 train every 1 or 2 hours that isn't a problem I guess :)
Rosenheim is a lot bigger and busier. No high rise, but a large shopping area and quite spread out. Main train hub to connect to other regional trains.
Met up with Stef and we drove to Kufstein in Austria. First time on an autobahn!!! Woohoo!!!
Checked out the Kufstein Festung (fortress) which was completed in 1522 with some parts dating back to the 1100's.
Overlooks the Inn river and nice views of Kufstein and the the surrounding area.
Ate Kaiserschmarrn and spatzle for the first time which are both yumm and had AuerBrau Helles from Rosenheim
Saturday was pretty overcast and not looking good for our planned hike up into the mountains. But apparently it was sunny up top above the cloud line so we decided to go as we wouldn't get another opportunity.
Drove out into the Alps and started at a point about 900m above sea level.
Hiked to the top of Wendelstein mountain which is 1838m above sea level. Weather was beautiful on the mountain with a nice warm sun and good long range visibility.
All the walking I've done around cities in Europe the last 3 weeks was probably good training for today, but the steep sections and rocky parts tested my muscles and endurance and I was keen formany rests along the way, but Stef seemed intent on beating the suggested time it takes to hike up, overtake anyone we saw up ahead of us and also not let anyone else pass us.
Took about 2 hours each way with a nice break up the top to rest and take in the AMAZING view over the Alps and into Austria(would've been quicker coming back down if we hadn't got lost and needed to back track a bit...)

Excellent decision to go ahead with the hike as it was an awesome day - despite being absolutely wrecked at the end of it :)
Met up with Julia for dinner and drinks after the hike. Unfortunately Stef and I were so tired from the hike it was an early night.
Awesome catching up with Stef and Julia and so lucky to get Stef's expert local tour of Rosenheim, Kufstein and Wendelstein mountain.
Sunday I got back to Munich in time to do the 1pm walking tour of the city. Legs were not quite up to it after yesterday's hike, but last opportunity so pushed through and glad I did. Went back to Hofbrau Haus for 1 last stein and Schweinshaxn then spent 4 hours at the hauptbahnhof resting mylegs and trying to upload photos to facebook using the free wifi fromburger king which was so slow I could only do 5 or 6 at a time!!! Good thing I had 4 hours to kill til my train to Paris.
Bye bye Munich and Germany :(
