Ilha de Stromboli - Ele dá o seu nome a um tipo de vulcões caracterizados por uma vulcânica efusiva chamado Strombolian. O vulcão é chamada por seus habitantes (a stombolani) Struògnoli, ou mesmo Iddu (Ele na Sicília), em referência à natureza divina que já foi atribuída a fenômenos naturais incontroláveis. O nome vem do grego antigo Στρογγύλη (redondo) por causa de sua forma. Strumbulu siciliano significa pião.
A ilha é um vulcão ativo que pertence às Ilhas Eólias e do Arco Aeolian. Localizado na bacia do Mar Tirreno Mediterrâneo Ocidental, a ilha é a mais setentrional das Ilhas Eólias e abrange uma área de 12,6 km². O edifício vulcânico é alta 926 m acima do nível do mar e atinge uma profundidade 'de cerca de 1.700 m abaixo do nível do mar. Stromboli tem uma atividade explosiva persistente e é um dos vulcões mais ativos do mundo. A poucas centenas de metros ao nordeste da ilha é o pescoço de Strombolicchio, restos de uma antiga chaminé vulcânica. A ilha é o lar de um farol da Marinha, atualmente desabitada e automatizado.
