Alix is a village in central Alberta east of Red Deer. Its village mascot is the Alix-Gator, who is featured prominently on many signs and businesses. Originally called Toddsville, the settlement was incorporated on June 3, 1907, and was named after Alexia Westhead, the first white woman settler of the community. The first mayor of Alix was Robert F. Sanderson, who also owned and ran the general store.Alix became the home to Dr. Irene Parlby, one of the Famous Five. Irene Parlby's public life may be said to have begun in 1913 when she was chosen as secretary of the Alix Country Women's Club. Horsethief Canyon is found 16 kilometres northwest of the town of Drumheller, in the province of Alberta, Canada. It is on the east bank of the Red Deer River, along Highway 838 . Both Horsethief Canyon and Horseshoe Canyon are distinctive features of the surrounding badlands of central Alberta. Although the two canyons look similar, they are separated by several kilometres and were created by different tributaries of the Red Deer River. The name Horsethief was given to this area because of an illegal horse trade network used in the last century. Horses being smuggled illegally between the United States and Alberta were supposedly hidden in this canyon, but the true origin of the name is not clear.

The Atlas Coal Mine National Historic Site is an inactive coal mine in Alberta, Canada that operated from 1936 to 1979. Located in East Coulee, it is considered to be Canada's most complete historic coal mine and is home to the country's last standing wooden coal tipple, and the largest still standing in North America. It was designated an Alberta Provincial Historic Resource in 1989 and a National Historic Site of Canada in 2002.

The Bleriot Ferry is a cable ferry in Alberta, Canada. It links the two sections of the North Dinosaur Trail as it crosses the Red Deer River from Kneehill County on the west, to Starland County on the east. It was built by Andre Bleriot commissioned in 1913 and, in addition to providing an essential transport service, acted as a major social hub in the Drumheller area.The ferry operates from late April to November.

It's up!! It's been a week since the end of summer (and consequently, the start of school) and I'm already waiting for our next holiday. After a hectic first week back, I decided to finally upload my first full-length travel video!!

Obviously, this is my first video and there is a lot I can improve on, but I AM working on it, so while (helpful) critique is welcome - please try not to be too critical :-))

Aside from the problem of the video (which was filmed in 1080p60) having only been able to upload in 720p60 rather than 1080p60, I'm happy with the way the vid turned out, so I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it!!

Vulcan, Alberta, Canada

Day 25 6-24-16 We arrive in the little town of Vulcan, Alberta, which is set up to look like Star Trek. Unfortunately, we arrive about 6 PM so most things were closed.

We took pictures of the things outside and then went on to Okotoks to camp for the night.

We crossed the border by bus, and the day went very smoothly… Except for one little event on the U.A.E. border which consisted of Kara having tea alone in the government building while the entire bus waited on her….

Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the travel bug! We started traveling full-time January 10, 2016. False Creek is a short inlet in the heart of Vancouver. It separates downtown from the rest of the city.
False Creek is a very popular boating area for many different activities including dragon boating, canoeing, kayaking, public ferries, charter ships, and visiting pleasure boats. It has 10 marinas with berths for 1500 watercraft and several paddling clubs or boat rental facilities.
