Toronto, Canada. History, Economy, Best Time To Travel
Toronto is the provincial capital of Ontario and the most populous city in Canada. Toronto is a centre of business, finance, arts, and culture. It is recognized as one of the most multicultural and cosmopolitan cities in the world. The population of Toronto reflects its current and historical role as an important destination for immigrants to Canada. Toronto is sometimes referred to as The New York City of Canada. over half of the city's residents were born outside Canada.
LOCATION
Toronto covers an area of 630 square kilometres. The city is the anchor of the Golden Horseshoe region, which wraps around Lake Ontario from Toronto to Niagara Falls. Toronto stretches some 32 kilometres along the shores of Lake Ontario.
HISTORY
The settlement by Europeans started with the French building a seldom occupied fort near today's Exhibition grounds in the mid-1700s, then grew out of a backwoods English trading post established as York in 1793. in the 19th century, it grew to become the cultural and economic focus of Canada.
POPULATION
the most commonly reported religion in Toronto was Christianity. Other religions significantly practised in the city are Islam (8.2%), Hinduism (5.6%), Judaism (3.8%). While the majority of Torontonians speak English as their primary language, over 160 languages are spoken in the city. The Chinese and Italian are the second and third most widely spoken languages at work.
BEST TIME
The best time of the year to visit Toronto is from late April through May, and from mid-September through mid-October. During these times, you'll have a good chance for pleasant weather. Peak tourist season occurs during the summer months, the sidewalks come alive with pedestrian marketplaces, patio restaurants and numerous cultural events. However, as temperatures rise, so do prices. If you want lower prices and temperatures above freezing, spring and fall are your best bet.
CLIMATE
Toronto's climate on the whole is on the cool side. Winters are cold with frequent snow.During the winter months, temperatures are usually below 0 °C. Downtown temperatures average -3.8°C (25°F) in January. The city experiences warm and humid summers with an average high of 27°C (80°F) and a low of 18°C (65°F) in July/August.
COMMUNICATION
Toronto Pearson International Airport is located 28km (17 miles) northwest of downtown and is served by most major airlines. This is Canada’s largest and busiest airport. Toronto is a central transportation hub for road, rail and air networks in Southern Ontario. There are many forms of transport in the city of Toronto, including highways and public transit. Toronto also has an extensive network of bicycle lanes and multi-use trails and paths.
ECONOMY
Toronto is an international centre for business and finance. Generally considered the financial capital of Canada, Toronto has a high concentration of banks and brokerage firms. The city is home to the Toronto Stock Exchange. Its economy is highly diversified with strengths in technology, design, financial services, life sciences, education, arts, fashion, business services etc.

A few weeks ago I teamed up with BC Helicopters who took me and my kids on an unforgettable adventure. Enjoy this video and follow along on a flight over Vancouver, landing on a remote mountain top and narrow bridge by the Pitt River hot springs. Oh boy, what a trip!
