The Orlando area is second only to Las Vegas for its concentration and number of hotels, and they come in all shapes, sizes and budgets. Virtually everything is family friendly and many are elaborately themed, with some very competitive deals at off-peak periods. With more hotel rooms than New York City, Orlando's accommodation offerings are vast and, thus, daunting. Generally speaking, the closer to Disney, the higher the price. Walt Disney World Resort itself boasts some of the best and most fun hotels anywhere, and they range from deluxe to budget in price.

These Orlando hotel prices are the starting prices for a double room per night, excluding sales tax, lodging tax and breakfast, unless otherwise specified. Sales tax varies from 6 to 7%, depending upon which county you are in.
Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress Resort
An 18-storey atrium welcomes honeymooners and families, screeching parrots and all. It's hard to imagine a more replete resort hotel, and there's a whole world to explore, from one of the best pools in the country to the comprehensive sports on offer to the destination restaurants.
Portofino Bay Hotel
This re-creation of an Italian fishing village is in the heart of Universal Orlando Resort, complete with fine restaurants and shops. The guest rooms are decorated with a Mediterranean theme and there's a lively piazza with vintage Italian sports cars and scooters.
Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge
This magnificently themed resort is a real slice of Africa, complete with a 13-hectare (33-acre) wildlife reserve out the windows of the 1,293 rooms in the six-storey luxury resort. Rooms are laid out in a horseshoe shape after a kraal African village design.
Walt Disney World Swan and Walt Disney World Dolphin
The former operated by Westin and the latter by Sheraton, these are the archetypal fancy Disney hotels with all the attendant allures. Between the two hotels, there are 2,267 luxury rooms and 254,000 sq ft of meeting and exhibition space. They share 17 restaurants and lounges, four swimming pools, two health clubs, and a wide array of recreational activities.
Sheraton Safari Hotel and Suites
With larger than average rooms, a great pool and an ideal location just outside Walt Disney World Resort, this make this a good family choice. As you can imagine, the décor is largely animal prints and exotic details. There's been attention paid to the outdoor areas, including a 24m (80ft) water slide in the pool. The hotel is currently undergoing a US$25 million renovation, due for completion this spring.
Renaissance Orlando at SeaWorld
This beautiful resort-style hotel is right opposite SeaWorld, and has an impressive lobby atrium and a spectacular indoor courtyard. For the price, this hotel has great rooms and the restaurant choice is reassuringly diverse. All in all, this property offers superb value in this price range.

I didn't like anything about this hotel I loved everything about it from the staff to the rooms to the activities to the huge Lego pool in the lobby my son was turning 8 and we went all the way from new York to take him there he was in wow mode the whole time he wasn't even that excited about Disney world I mean the elevators soon as the doors closed it was a dance party with the disco lights and music the breakfast was great such a wide selection I felt in love would recommend this to everyone and anyone I mean really worth every cent
I loved the hotel, Legoland and the water park. All very awesome. The dinner and breakfast buffet was exceptionally good. The staff was helpful and kind and informed.
Minuses:
The check in process was not a good experience. Only one person to check folks in,at first, and that person had to deal with someone who had a problem with their booking. After standing in line for 30 minutes or so, another person came to help with the check in process. Because my room was not quite ready, I was told to come back in an hour or so to get my room number and keys. When I came back, I then had to stand in line, once again with only one person checking folks in, and so I spent another 30 minutes in line. The only other issue is I had my three great grand sons with me and we had a pirate room. The treasure hunt was fun but when we unlocked the safe for the treasure, there were only enough for two boys instead of three.

Spook Hill - Lake Wales, FL
For some reason guidebooks and websites list Spook Hill as something to do/see in Lake Wales, FL. My wife and I visited Bok Tower Sanctuary (which is actually very cool) then decided to stop by Spook Hill. The idea is that you drive to a certain point on this road and your car will roll against gravity. Watch the video and you'll see this is the dumbest thing ever. The hill you pull up to has about a 15 degree incline - of course you're going to roll backward. Now, if your car rolled forward, that would be something to see. But backward? Dumbest attraction I've ever been to.
