Lake Ninan
Lake Ninan is located about 10 km south west of the wheatbelt town of Wongan Hills. The best access to the lake is from the Calingiri-Wongan Hills Road.
It is part of an important wetland area and is home to permanent and migratory water birds including ducks, ibis, heron, swans and pelicans.
In 1910, water from the lake was carted by camels to Wongan Hills for use in the steam trains.
In 1917 and again in 1963 the lake actually overflowed with the deepest part of the lake reaching 4.5 metres.
Before salinity became a problem there were even species of fish found in the lake. Today the lake can be up to 600% more salty than the sea.
For a time in the 1950-60s salt was collected at the lake.
There is a large rest area next to the lake with seats, table and a shelter.
The lake reserve covers 700 ha with 259 Ha being managed by CALM / DPaW since 1963 as an 'A' class reserve. The shire manages 245 Ha as a recreation reserve.

Wave Rock Drone Flight: Hyden rock, where Wave Rock and the Hippos Yawn are located, emerges out from the utterly flat surrounding farm land 4km outside of town. The iconic 14m high 110m long curving granite face of Wave Rock has borne 500 million years of erosion take its present form. Some say that its only worth spending 15 mins there before the novelty wears out but really you could realistically spend twice that if you arrive in the early morning or late afternoon and watch colour of the rock change with the movement of shadows. A 3.6km walking track leads up over and around the rock. The most attractive part of trail runs along the rock edge to the left of wave rock and links up with nearby Hippos Yawn. Kalannie
Kalannie is a small town in the Shire of Dalwallinu, in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia, approximately 259 kilometres (161 mi) north-east of the state capital, Perth.
Kalannie was gazetted as a townsite in 1929. The name is Aboriginal, and is in a list of names from the York area where the meaning is given as where the Aboriginals got white stone for their spears.
The main resources in Kalannie are wheat and gypsum. Kalannie is connected to the narrow gauge rail network from a branch-line on the Amery to Bonnie Rock section.
DJI Mavic Pro: Drone Video Around the Farm
The DJI Mavic has been struggling a bit recently. I've had issues with my phone disconnecting from the drone's camera as well as some stick calibration issues. I've tried a few different things to alleviate these issues, but constant rain in the south has made it tough to get out and fly. Recently however, I was able to get out for a few days, nail down the problems, and get some footage. In addition to working with a fully functional drone again, I also finally received my Polar Pro neutral density filters which have allowed me to get smooth footage even in the brightest part of day. Some of the clips are a little soft, but that's user error from me not focusing on the correct area.
I still think the Mavic is one of the most revolutionary pieces of technology since the iPhone. I think some of the issues I've been having with it are normal growing pains from being an early adopter of the tech. Another issue is my phone itself. Pretty sure my iPhone 6S is on its last legs and I believe this is affecting my connectivity issues.
Goomalling
Goomalling township is situated in the Central Wheat belt area of Western Australia, 132km north east of Perth.
The name was derived from the Koomal Possum which inhabited the area in abundance when the district was first established. Now known as 'Place of the silver grey possum.' Goomalling was also called 'Coomarin' or 'Coomallyn'. The current name was first used by Alfred Hillman in 1846.
The present population of the Shire (as opposed to just the town) is approximately 1200. The district produces several varieties of wheat, lupins, wool, beef, cattle, pigs, fat lambs etc.
The Goomalling Historical Society has placed sign posts on the old school sites within the Shire - many can be spotted on the road verges.
Information of the local heritage trail is available from the Telecentre or Caravan Park. The walk points out places of historical significance around the town site of Goomalling.
Although only a small town with limited shopping facilities, Goomalling is a very nice place to stop and relax for a few days and it is fortunate in being at the centre of a number of other towns that can be reached in a series of days trips.
Suggested day trips from Goomalling:
1. From Goomalling you can head north to Wongan Hills and then travel east to Cadoux, south to Dowerin and back to your starting point.
2. Travel south west to Toodyay and then you can chose to go south to Clackline, then follow the Great Eastern Highway either west to Chidlow and north to Noble Falls before returning via Toodyay again, or you can turn east to Northam and then north to Jennacubbine and back to Goomalling.
3. The last tour is south east to Meckering then along the Great Eastern Highway through Cunderdin and Tammin and nearby Hunt's Well before turning north to Wyalkatchem and then returning via Dowerin.
Each of these trips is on sealed roads and will take you to a number of interesting places and covers a wide range of different terrain, ranging from thick forest around Chidlow to salt lake country near Cadoux and along the Goldfields Water Scheme.
The caravan park is one of the best shire parks in the state and is run by a very friendly and helpful couple. There is also an excellent hardware store just over the railway line (on the Dowerin road) which is (in general) cheaper than the hardware stores in Northam.
Goomalling is a wonderful example of good old fashioned country hospitality and town pride.

Lake Hillier - Western Australia
Lake Hillier is a lake on Middle Island, the largest of the islands and islets that make up the Recherche Archipelago, Western Australia. It is particularly notable for its pink colour.
The length of the lake is about 600 metres. The lake is surrounded by a rim of sand and a dense woodland of paperbark and eucalyptus trees with a narrow strip of sand dunes covered by vegetation separating it to the north from the Southern Ocean.
The most notable feature of the lake is its pink colour. It is such a significant distinguishing feature of the archipelago that air passengers often take note of it. The colour is permanent, and does not alter when the water is taken in a container. Although the source of the pink colour has not been definitively proven in the case of Lake Hillier, the pink colour of other salt lakes (e.g., Pink Lake) in the region arises from a dye created by the organisms Dunaliella salina and Halobacteria. Another hypothesis is that the pink colour is due to red halophilic bacteria in the salt crusts. Despite the unusual hue, the lake exhibits no known adverse effects upon humans. From above, the lake appears a solid bubble gum pink, but from the shoreline it appears more of a clear pink hue. The shoreline is also covered in salt crust deposits.

Canola is a GMO - Genetically Modified Organism.
Canola is a Canadian invention. It was created in the 1970's by MONSANTO and the canola oil is extracted from the Rapeseed plant which is part of the Mustard plant group.
Canola oil works well as an industrial oil, It's used to make soap, candles, lubricants and bio fuel.
However it is used in food also and this causes health problems. It's high in Euric Acid and can damage your heart and kidneys. It's classified as monounsaturated fat or a Trans Fatty Acid and this is associated with cancer.
