Dardanup Heritage Park - Western Australia
We had two main destinations to see outside central Bunbury. The first was Dardanup Heritage Park which was one place we have been told over and over again that we should visit.
It isn't far from Bunbury and can be reached via the Outer Ring Road and then south into Moore Road. Watch for the sign as you drive south on Moore Road.
The entry fee wasn't what I would call cheap but I soon came to realise why, when I saw the extent of the exhibits inside.
The park is probably the best single attraction in the area eclipsing even the wonder of Gnomesville. It is by far the best privately operated museum of its type that we have seen anywhere in W.A.
The collection of vehicles, machinery and memorabilia at the Heritage Park is really second to none. I would suggest that you don't go for a short visit because if you really want to enjoy this place, set aside at least two or three hours or even more.
The park opens on Sundays and Wednesdays from 9:30am to 4pm. I think it would be great if it was open more days in the week as I am sure many visitors miss out if they are not in the area during the opening times.
We shot plenty of footage at the park and will be producing a video showing you why you really should take the time to visit.
Most of the vehicles and machinery have been fully restored to working condition and it is great to see some of the vehicles being driven around. There are also live demonstrations of Tangye engines and for those who are interested in military history, the Bunbury RSL has a wonderful military collection housed in the drill hall.
This was my favourite exhibit as I have always had an interest in military equipment and history. The curator, Gerry Tyrrell, is great to talk to. He has a wealth of knowledge about the exhibits and if I had time, I would have loved to stop and chat with him a lot longer.
The drill hall houses a Leopard tank and this is one of the very few in the world that you can actually have a look inside.
If you need a break during your visit to the park, I would recommend a coffee and cake or a lunch break at the café. You will probably need a bit of a rest at some stage as there is just so much to see. I honestly cannot recommend this place highly enough. If you are in the area make sure you are there either Sunday or Wednesday. If you aren't in the area, plan a trip and go!

Bunbury Western Australia - WHY MOVE HERE whats it like
Tour of Greater Bunbury - 85 000 people including the changing city its marina, health, shopping, sporting and education facilities local economy and surrounding communities. For people considering moving to one of the six local governemnt areas Collie, Donnybrook, Harvey, Dardanup, Capel and Bunbury.
Beacon - Western Australia
Beacon is 42km north of Bencubbin on the northeast border of wheat growing country. The name was originally Beacon Rock but the current name was adopted in 1931 when the town site was gazetted. The town's motto, 'living on the edge' expresses the feeling of being right on the edge of civilisation.
There is little to attract the casual visitor unless you are fascinated by wheat. There is an impressive wheat silo in town but not much else of note. Around the town is a different story. The shires in this area are all 'camping friendly' and many of the rock outcrops have free camping areas that abound with wildflowers in spring.
The area was originally opened up by sandalwood cutters and in 2007 it was proposed that a sandalwood dray be restored and exhibited The shire has adopted the title of 'The Sandalwood Shire'.

Katanning - Western Australia
Katanning is a large service centre for the northern areas of the Great Southern region of Western Australia.
The name is thought to come from an Aboriginal word 'Kartannin', meaning big meeting place. One source says the name is made up of the words 'kart' meaning head man and 'annin' meaning meeting place. Another theory suggests that the name was derived from an Aboriginal woman, Kate Anning and other suggestions are that the name may mean 'clear pool of sweet water' or 'spiders on your back'. The real meaning has been lost in time.
It is the centre of a rich agricultural area.
Earthquakes in the wheat belt seem to happen with some regularity and on October 10th 2007 a quake occurred not far south of town. It was a magnitude 4.8 and was the biggest quake for 40 years.

Crooked Brook Forest - Western Australia
Crooked Brook Forest is loacted about 25 Km from Bunbury in the shire of Dardanup.
It is a very popular picnic site with toilets, shelters, seats, tables and BBQs. There are also 4 walk trails including a wheelchair accessible 600m loop that takes you top the dam.

Seven Mile Beach - Western Australia
Seven Mile Beach is 10 Km north of the town of Dongara.
Self-contained vehicles are allowed to stay for up to 72 hours. Self-contained means NO WATER TO GROUND from your caravan or RV.
There is a skip bin for rubbish but no other facilities.
Boats can be launched from the beach but care should be taken as conditions can vary greatly and changes of weather occur very quickly in this area.

April 2015 - South Western Australia
This video shows the 9 days journey 16 students from Australia, Switzerland, England, Netherlands, Finland, United States, Germany, Italy and Canada.
South Western Australia is an amazing place to be, beautiful, vast, and colourful. We covered 2450 km by going through Hyden, Esperance (Cape Le Grand), Bremer Bay, Albany, Denmark, Margaret River, Yallingup and Dunsborough, Busselton, to close the circle in Perth.
Great thanks to Josh, for letting me use his camera, to Kara and Kiah for two unbelievable nights on great farms, and to all those 15 travellers who are an endless source of inspiration.
Currently studying at The University of Western Australia on exchange from HEC Montreal, I'm creating one video per month about my journey.
