Undiscovered Western Australia: Margaret River
AWOL's 'Undiscovered' series goes off the beaten track of major cities in Australia and the world, exploring the sides less seen.
This episode takes us to Western Australia's plentiful Margaret River region.
The Margaret River is 3 hours south of Western Australia's capital city, Perth. It's well known for incredible beaches, surf and producing some of Australia's best Chardonnay and Cabernet Savignon.
Stay active on your stay with the impressive views on the Cape to Cape track, or you can also visit the region's limestone caves like the Jewel Cave.

Mundaring Weir Dam Tourist Attraction Traveling Western Australia 4K
Mundaring Weir Dam Tourist Attraction Traveling Western Australia 4K The insane project in the history building dam to supply water to Kalgorlie 650 km pipeline.
As well as being an idyllic place for a scenic drive, a picnic with friends, or bushwalking, Mundaring Weir is also an important part of Western Australia's heritage.
Located in natural bushland in the Perth Hills, Mundaring Weir is one of the world's greatest engineering projects.
Completed in 1903, the Weir was the start of the water pipeline that pumped water to the Kalgoorlie goldfields, some 700 kilometres away.
At the foot of the weir is the Number 1 Pump Station Museum where you can learn more about the brilliant engineer behind the project, C.Y. O'Connor, who endured much public criticism and tragically took his own life.
A drive trail that follows the pipeline called the Golden Pipeline Heritage Trail starts at the museum.
There are several walking trails around Mundaring Weir that take you deep into virgin bush.
You'll see beautiful native plants, animals and plenty of birds. You can also walk across the massive concrete Weir wall.
Pack a picnic and enjoy the barbecue facilities, grassed areas and shady trees. While improvement works are underway, there will be limited access both above and below the Weir wall.

FAQ:
When did I start travelling?
I began to travel properly a few months after I graduated university in 2012. I booked a one way ticket to Australia and the fun began from there!
How do I fund my travels?
I normally apply for a work/travel visa in the country I am spending the majority of my time, I will then work for several months in a row, save up money and then disappear for a few months when I have the cash! I am also blessed enough to have made some really good friends on a lot of my previous travels, this normally means I have a place to crash!
What did I do before I began travelling?
Before I started travelling I gained a BSc in Forensics and Crime Scene Investigation, I intended to use my degree to get into Law school and become a Lawyer! That was all until I discovered road trips and wanderlust!
Do I have any previous experience in Film or Photography?
No! Everything I know I learned on the go! It really is the best way! Hands on knowledge in filming and editing really cannot be beaten.
How do I start travelling?
Just pack up and go! It really is the only way! If you keep telling yourself you're waiting for the perfect moment to travel, 10 years will pass and you'll realise you never did, adventure really doesn't wait!
Western Australia Road Trip Inspiration
In January 2017 I explored Western Australia. I learned to enjoy the beauty of remote places. The video is a visual highlight reel of that road trip. For now, there won’t be a voice-over because I am leaving to South East Asia this week and had no time to edit a proper top 10 video. I hope you still find it informative and inspiring.
My highlights were:
Dolphin Feeding in Monkey Mia
Surfing in Gnaraloo
Baby Sharks at Coral Bay and Snorkeling Ningaloo Reef
Sea Turtle at Turquoise Bay
Emu in Exmouth
Sandboarding in Lancelin
Cottesloe, Trigg and Scarborough Beach in Perth
Fremantle, Rottnest Island (Quokka!!) and Penguin Island
Southbound Festival with the best blokes, all of Harry’s friends
Southwest around Margaret River
Elephant Rocks
Treetop Walk, Valley of the Giants
And the absolute favorite moment was sharing a toast with a kangaroo at Lucky Bay, Esperance.
