Atlin is a community in northwestern British Columbia, Canada, located on the eastern shore of Atlin Lake. In addition to continued gold-mining activity, Atlin is a tourist destination for fishing, hiking and Heliskiing. As of 2004, there are 450 permanent residents. The name comes from Áa Tlein, the Tlingit language word for big body of water. The surrounding area has been used by Inland Tlingit people for many years and the community is home to the Taku River Tlingit First Nation. Each July the town hosts the Atlin Arts & Music Festival in Tarahne Park, however no festival took place in 2010.

Carcross, originally known as Caribou Crossing, is an unincorporated community in Yukon, Canada, on Bennett Lake and Nares Lake. It is home to the Carcross/Tagish First Nation. At the 2016 census it had a population of 301.It is 74 km south-southeast by the Alaska Highway and the Klondike Highway from Whitehorse. The south end of the Tagish Road is in Carcross. Carcross is also on the White Pass and Yukon Route railway. Carcross is mainly known for its world class mountain biking on the near-by Montana Mountain, and for the nearby Carcross Desert, often referred to as the world's smallest desert.

Montana Mountain is a deeply eroded Late Cretaceous stratovolcano located south of Carcross, Yukon, Canada. As well as its main peak, the mountain includes many sub-peaks and contains felsic pyroclastics and flows; typically altered and orange-weathering. Montana Mountain was formed when the ancient Kula Plate was subducting under southwestern Yukon during the Late Cretaceous period. A flurry of quartz mining activity took place on Montana Mountain starting in 1899, peaking in 1905-1906 when American mining promoter John Conrad consolidated claims on Montana Mountain and built three tramways to carry the ore back down, including a 4-mile-long one from Windy Arm on Tagish Lake to the Mountain Hero mine.Montana Mountain is also an important landmark for the Carcross/Tagish First Nations livi...

Exploring the backcountry of Northern British Columbia

I finished up my time at the horse ranch in Alberta and got referred to a hunting outfitter in Northern British Columbia. I drove up over a couple days and got the chance to explore some of the most beautiful parts of Canada by plane, horseback and inflatable raft. I learned a ton in my short amount of time there and the experience won't ever be forgotten.

Most of the harm to our planet has happened with our generation (boomers), I mean if you go to an ancient Mayan site where 10's of thousands of people flourished, aside of the buildings there is little left behind. We are leaving our print on the air, water and soil with invisible toxins, then that miracle 'plastic' like bags and bottles will be around even in landfills for centuries. We've dammed rivers and forever changed the landscape.. The list goes on..we have left our mark.

Vancouver Island Gold Rush!...VIPMA unveils the new Leechtown Monument

In 1864 Vancouver Island had its own brief gold rush creating Leechtown. The original cairn commemorating the boomtown has long vanished. With a team of volunteers and supporters VIPMA (the Vancouver Island Placer Mining Association) replaced the cairn with a new boulder monument. Unveiled by the Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia, the Honourable Judith Guichon, in July 2014 it marks the 150th anniversary of this still producing gold area.
