Rocky Mountaineer at Lake Louise
A wrong turning on the road put me at a part of he tracks near Lake Louise where you could go righ to the edge, no fence and as luck would have it the Rocky Mountaineer was just about to pick up after waiting for an approaching freight train to pass off the single track. This is probably a once a day or even less event so, very cool!
STONEY CREEK BRIDGE_BC.wmv
The Stoney Creek Bridge is situated at the east end of Glacier Park BC, on the Connaught track at Milepost 76 (shown in the video), between Rogers and Flat Creek on the Mountain Sub of the CPR. The bridge is over 600' long and 325' above the creek. It is possible to capture an excellent photo of the bridge from a very specific point on Trans-Canada Highway in Rogers Pass, although stopping is not recommended.
The main purpose of this 3-minute edited video is to show the track on top if the main arch. Viewers will find the sequence as we pass over and continue on a curve, just a bit past the bridge.
The video is taken from the rear gallery of our Rocky Mountaineer train, which left Kamloops earlier, eastbound for Calgary. Commentary is supplied by the crew during the passage over the bridge and the train is purposely slowed down.
It is most unfortunate that an eastbound view at track level, no longer allows good photos, coming onto the bridge as in former years, due to the tree growth. No need to state that the gallery becomes rather crowded during the passage over the Stoney Creek Bridge, one of the highlight of the trip for some.
Shot with a Canon S5IS still camera at 12:44 pm on May 11 2009. Apologies for loud clicks during the video, as some still photos of the valley were taken from the bridge during the first part if the run.
