Explore Vancouver Island - Authentic Travel
Travel through Vancouver Island’s cultures, towns, and outdoors to find your authentic experience.
It’s here on Vancouver Island that you’ll find our histories, past and present, through the local cultural traditions of the Kwakwakawa’wak, Coast Salish, and Nuu-chah-nulth communities. Become immersed in the stories of First Nations communities, told first hand by artists and explorers from all reaches of the island.
Our monuments of yesteryear herald impressions of a different time, transporting you across tracks—The Mclean Mill Steam Train—or leading you to roam over impressive trestles, like Kinsole Trestle in Cobble Hill. And for when you’re looking for something leisurely, a stroll in Hatley Park’s gardens will certainly do.
Elk Falls Suspension Bridge, one of the latest stops added to the Vancouver Island travel landscape, overlooks cascading falls, and this Comox Valley highlight is also a destination for salmon fishing.
At places like East Sooke Regional Park, Sproat Lake, Petroglyph Park in Nanaimo, or on a Gulf Island like Quadra and Galiano, you’ll find yourself seeing eye to eye with the petroglyphs. These BC coast rock carvings date back well over 5,000 years.
To bring a local element to your Vancouver Island travels, plan time for main streets like those in Cumberland and Sidney. Canada’s only booktown, Sidney is home to niche bookstores, tucked around local giftshops, florists, and restaurants.

How close can you get to an orca whale?
We get very close to Humpback Whales and Killer (Orca) Whales off the coast of Hartley Bay, British Columbia, Canada. We were filming an episode of Chaos & Courage for the Aboriginal Network on a Guardian boat when these amazing animals swam by. Very Lucky!
