Catalonia, Spain - Sustainable Tourism - Unravel Travel TV
Catalonia has countless rural tourism options, with something for everyone. You will find Catalonia's most rural spots in a careful selection of very special rural accommodation, where authenticity and friendliness are among the most outstanding features. These rural tourism establishments are classified by ears of wheat, a new category comparable to the stars used for hotels. Each ears-of-wheat category establishes a set of features taking account of the specific characteristics of the building, its rooms, furniture and outdoor spaces, not forgetting the services offered to guests and the activities available in the area. Country homes, farmhouses and agro-tourism establishments in isolated rural areas or small villages. Individual accommodation or accommodation shared with the owners and other guests, allowing us to enjoy a wide range of options in our free time and to discover other ways of life connected with nature and the countryside.
Catalonia offers numerous natural areas that are ideal for leisure, adventure and nature watching activities, all while enjoying its varied landscape. From the highest peaks of the Pyrenees to the most well-hidden coves of the Mediterranean, through the valleys of inland Catalonia and the natural sites of the Ebro delta and the Lands of Lleida, active & nature tourism offers a variety of options within everyone's reach. The mild climate allows to take part in various activities throughout the year, such as hiking on an extensive network of long and short routes, cycling through the Greenways and mountain biking in one of Catalonia's 18 MTB centres. You can also interpret nature, observing flora and fauna, exploring the seabed or walking in one of Catalonia's nature spaces.
The secret of Catalan cuisine is in the quality and uniqueness of the products used, plus the combination of what is offered by the land and the sea. Prades potatoes, wines from the Penedès, the ganxet bean, Siurana olive oil, calçots (a type of tender onion) from Valls, rice from the Ebro Delta, sausage from Vic and the cheeses of Alt Urgell, to name but a few of the Catalan products with certification of origin and agri-food quality. Catalan cuisine is internationally renowned for achieving a difficult balance between innovation and tradition, through the work of chefs like Joan Roca, Carme Ruscalleda, Santi Santamaria and, above all, Ferran Adrià, who from the kitchens of El Bulli restaurant revolutionised the world gastronomy scene. Behind the cuisine of Catalonia today lies the story of a country, a land, a way of being and of doing things. That is why it has been nominated for recognition by UNESCO as part of the Intangible Heritage of Humanity. In addition to its many restaurants of all kinds, Catalonia has a network of public markets where product quality is paramount, and a number of groups of restauranteurs dedicated to promoting the cuisine typical of each area, working with the two terms of territory and product. The biodiversity of Catalonia's landscape also allows you to take part in adventure activities like rafting and hydrospeeding on several rivers, sea kayaking, canyoning, hang gliding, paragliding, ballooning, skydiving, horseback riding and climbing.
The Industrial Revolution in the Iberian Peninsula began in Catalonia, which became one of the most industrially dynamic regions of Europe. The new steam-based industry brought changes to manufacturing processes, transportation systems and even to the way workers lived. These changes can be seen in numerous examples of industrial heritage conserved in Catalonia, located around the Llobregat and Ter rivers. In Catalonia, the modernist art movement is closely associated with the Industrial Revolution. The modernist imprint is evident in factories like the Vapor Vell de Sants in Barcelona (one of the first in Catalonia), the Anís del Mono factory in Badalona, and the Freixenet Cava winery in Sant Sadurní d'Anoia. One of the most characteristic elements of Catalan industrial heritage are its textile factory colonies, located in rural areas by the river. Some examples are Colonia Güell in Santa Coloma de Cervelló, the Viladomiu colonies in Gironella, and the Borgonyà colony in Sant Vicenç de Torelló. These small villages have all the services necessary for the workers, dedicated exclusively to the factory and their families. Throughout Catalonia there are examples of this industrial heritage, and of factories still in operation, in the fields of food, design, cars, wine, etc. More information is available from the Catalan Industrial Tourism Network or from the Museum of Science and Technology in Terrassa.

Join us as we announce our trip to Peru at Pearson Airport in Toronto as fly with Air Canada Rouge from Toronto to Lima. We're thrilled to be heading back to Lima, Peru and this time it is for a special occasion as Audrey's Grandmother turns 90 years old! Another special aspect of this trip is that we're joined by family including Audrey's sister and husband and Audrey's Mother who is already in Lima waiting for us.
Fortunately we have a direct flight with Air Canada Rouge from Toronto to Lima and it isn't delayed. Prior to boarding the flight we indulge in a little Canadian fast food at Tim Hortons. The flight itself was a bit turbulent but overall not too bad. Upon arrival we're picked up by Audrey's cousin and boyfriend who take us the airport we'll be staying at for the remained for out trip in Lima, Peru. Too tired to wrap things up at the apartment we wake-up and show you our non-traditional Peruvian breakfast as we just snack on Tejas and mixed Peruvian potato chips.
Our first party for Audrey's Grandma is that evening and we indulge by sampling numerous kinds of Peruvian food including highlights such as Aji de Gallina and Pisco Sour. We finish off with a beautiful sunset overlooking Miraflores. We plan to make a 14 part food series from Lima so stay tuned for that!

Peru Trip Announcement! Toronto to Lima Travel Vlog Video Transcript:
Time for another travel vlog. Yeah. Tell us we were just at the airport a few days ago. Where are we off to now? We were. Well haha. We are going to a very familiar destination. Lima, Peru.
And we're really excited because it is for a special occasion. And I'll let you talk about that. Yes.
My Grandma is turning 90 years old. Yeah. In a matter of days so yeah. A lot of the family is flying down there and we're just going to have a big celebration. Fun birthday party and just hang out and spend quality time.
It is awesome. Your Mom is already there. Your sister is coming. And it is great for your Grandma because all of her daughters are there. Yes. So all 3 of them and yeah we're so excited to go back to Lima. One of our favorite foodie cities in the whole world. No I'm going to say it is probably the best foodie city. The best. We love it. And so we're heading back and we're going to be eating a lot there. We're going to be filming a lot and we are also going to be spending quality time with family so it is very exciting for us.
Update! It is time to board. Yeah. Also I don't think we mentioned we are traveling with my sister and her husband. Yeah. We just met them at the gate. That is awesome. They are in a different section. Yes. They are getting on. We need to get on. Let's board.
Well at long at last. You almost fell down the escalator there. Yeah. I'm just waking up. A bit of a bambi moment. Oh my gosh it is midnight. Yeah it is late. We made it to Lima. We made it.
Long flight. I would say there was medium turbulence. Yeah. Not horrendous but enough to make you aware of it. Yes. But we're thrilled to be back here. I mean we're both tired but um yeah let's get our bags and let's get to our place.
I've got the bags. Everyone's bags made it. Now we're going to go meet my cousin and her boyfriend who are coming to pick us up. In the wee hours of the morning. 2 am.
Well we pretty much passed out last night. We sure did. We conked. We went to bed around 2am. I think so. But surprisingly I didn't need that long of a sleep. I only slept 4 or 5 hours and I woke up totally refreshed. And we're having breakfast now.
And then we have a celebration. One of the many birthday gatherings happening this week. There is going to be a lot of food today.
Oh! Salut! Salud!

Nikkei Peruvian Food - All you can Eat Sushi Buffet in Lima, Peru Travel Video Transcript:
today we are taking you for Japanese fusion food here in Peru. AKA Nikkei food. I think it is a sushi buffet to be honest. A maki buffet. A sushi buffet. And this is your cousins and her boyfriends favorite place to go eat. We asked them where they wanted to go and they said here (Oceanika Restaurante Fusion & Sushi Bar) and so we're just going to probably get a buffet and devour a tonne of food. And this is the gang.
Well the food has arrived. And we're going to get an explanation from an expert.
This one is smoked salmon. Smoked salmon and inside we have avocado, cream cheese and shrimp. That looks awesome. This one is the same but inside is salmon. And it is fried. Fried okay. And the third one is grilled bacon. Grilled roll. And inside we have bacon. Bacon. Guys bacon for the win. Who likes bacon? That is not Japanese. That is the fusion coming in. That is the fusion. That is the Nikkei. Yes, that is Nikkei. That is the Nikkei. And the last one is Acevichado. That is the most local one right? Yeah, that is the local one. So how would you describe that one? It is like lemon with mayonnaise. Mayonnaise yeah. And we have salmon on the top with cucumber inside.
Okay you know what since we're at a fusion restaurant there is a lot of Peruvian twists yep with this sushi so you need to try the one that has the Lomo Saltado. Where is that? Which is beef. It is not fish it has beef and like fried onions. Look at that on top of it. Yeah that is like one of the typical dishes of Peru. Lomo saltado. In sushi form. And it is crispy in the inside too. So good. Like this is just like next level maki. I'm loving this place. I can see why Luciana and Georgie think it is their favorite restaurant. And you also have the Acevichado which is the ceviche.
Round 2 has arrived. So what do we have this time. 60 more pieces. 60 more pieces and the new ones are Leche de Tigre and is there one more? Let's turn to the expert once more. Expert. The new ones are the Leche de Tigre and Ebitem. And the Flambeado.
We ended up paying for 6 people. Yeah. 270 Soles. Which in US dollars would be 90 dollars. So you're talking $15 USD dollars per person. Great value!
