Located in the city of Barcelona, Park Guell is one of the most beautiful icons of the city. It is a work of Antoni Gaudí located in the upper part of Barcelona, where you can have a wonderful view of the city. You can enjoy a walk surrounded by a green environment with modernist works.
Modernism was an artistic movement that developed in the Catalan approximately between 1888 and 1911. Corresponded to the initial moment of the expansion of Catalan and largely responded to the desire to create a country style. Currents had formal relations with foreign symbolism as the Modern Style, the Art Nouveau, the Jugendstil, the Liberty and Secession, but its originality comes from the desire to synthesize and poetic aesthetic movement neomedievalista tradition of the Renaissance, technological progressivism and tragic realism in literature. Despite the attempt at synthesis, many of his works clearly belong to a stream and unrealistic dreamer white legendary mystic, or a current lively, concerned with the social and messianic accent.
We must distinguish the white wing modernist painting (with figures like Joan Brull and Llimona, curlicue as Riquer idealistic, Bonnin, Gual and Pasco) black wing Saffron group chaired by Isidro Nonell extraordinary. Nonell began with the curlicue symbolist cretins Boi, passed by the time green, dark, gypsies, rich in nuances, and finished with a time of bright pink short time.
The Park Güell of Barcelona (in Catalan : Parc Güell, in Spanish : Parque Güell, although the original spelling was in English : Park Güell of Barcelona ) is a large urban park elements with architectural located in the Gracia district of the city of Barcelona, on the slope facing the Mediterranean Sea from Mount Carmel, not far from the Tibidabo. Originally intended to be an urbanization, was designed by architect Antoni Gaudí, maximum exponent of Catalan modernism.
The Park Güell of Barcelona is a reflection of the fullness of artistic Gaudí; belongs to its naturalistic stage ( 1900s ), a period in which the Catalan architect perfected his personal style, inspired by the organic forms of nature and putting in place a series of new structural solutions originating in its analysis of ruled geometry.
In 1969, the Park Güell of Barcelona was appointed Artistic Historical Monument of Spain and in 1984 was listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, including the Site Works of Antoni Gaudí. The fact that Gaudí rejected the use of straight lines and right angles by the unnatural led to consider that all the domes and porticos curves are dominated by the slanted columns.
The central area of the park consists of a huge open square oval partially suspended, bounded on the south side by a bank undulating with panoramic views over the city. Under the square lies the hypostyle hall, a kind of large porch supported by dozens of columns reminiscent of classical antiquity, which ends a monumental staircase with three sources that leads to the main entrance of the park, with its distinctive pavilions of the purest style gaudíniano.
A parallel project to the Park Güell of Barcelona and excellent example of garden designed by Gaudí are Artigas Gardens in La Pobla de Lillet (1903-1910), commissioned by the textile industrial Joan Artigas i Alart. Intervened in this work workers who had worked in the Park Güell of Barcelona, doing a project similar to the park from Barcelona, so the structural and stylistic similarities are evident between both. As in Park Güell of Barcelona, Gaudí designed a fully integrated gardens in nature, with a set of constructs organic lines that integrate seamlessly with the natural contour.
Park Güell of Barcelona was designed as a set impregnated with a strong symbolism, in which scholars claim to see the most varied type of referrals due to the complex iconography by Gaudí applied to the whole urban project, these references ranging from the political Catalanism the Catholic religion, through mythology, history or alchemy.

Places to see in ( Girona - Spain ) Monestir de Santa Maria de Ripoll
The Monastery of Santa Maria de Ripoll is a Benedictine monastery, built in the Romanesque style, located in the town of Ripoll in Catalonia, Spain. Although much of the present church is 19th century rebuilding, the sculptured portico is a renowned work of Romanesque art.
The Monastery of Santa Maria de Ripoll was founded in 888 by Count Wilfred the Hairy (called Guifré el Pilós in Catalan) who used it as a centre to bring about the repopulation of the region after conquering it. Wilfred's son, Ridulph, was educated there and was later abbot of the monastery, as well as bishop of Urgell. The monastery grew rapidly, and was subsequently reconsecrated in 935, 977 and 1032, though the monks are known to have been established there permanently only from 1025 or 1032. The scriptorium and the monastic school quickly gained renown under Arnold Scholasticus.
The monastery had several offshoots which included the abbeys of St. Martin-du-Canigou (now in France) and that of Santa Maria de Montserrat. It was also known for its collection of manuscripts which numbered 246 by the year 1046, and later included the 13th century Gesta comitum Barcinonensium, considered to be the first history of Catalonia and written by the monks themselves.
From 1070 to 1169 the monastery was governed by the Abbey of St. Victor of Marseille. Santa Maria de Ripoll was the main religious center of Catalonia until the 15th century, when it started to decline, beginning with the loss of control over the Monastery of Montserrat in 1402. In 1428 it was severely damaged by an earthquake, after which it was restored with the new parts in Gothic style.
The monastery became the family mausoleum for the Counts of Barcelona and Counts of Besalú, and well as a great center of learning, with a large library. The library and much of the monastery's vast archives were destroyed by fire in 1835, after it had been secularized. In 1847 part of the cloister was demolished, followed by the 1856 by the abbey palace. It was rebuilt in 1886, under the direction of architect Elias Rogent, the basilica being consecrated in 1896.
The original monastic church had a nave and four aisles, roofed by barrel vaults. The nave and aisle terminated in five apses, later increased to seven when apses were added to the transepts also. The current church dates to Rogent's reconstruction in 1896, and although maintaining features of the original church, the present building has only two aisles. The transept houses the tombs of the counts of Besalú and of several counts of Barcelona, from Wilfred the Hairy to Ramón Berenguer IV.
