Andamooka is a town approximately 600 km north of Adelaide in the Far North of South Australia. Andamooka is the largest town administered by the Outback Communities Authority instead of a local government area. It is in the state electoral district of Giles and the federal Division of Grey.

Beltana is a semi-ghost town 540 kilometres north of Adelaide, South Australia. Beltana is known for continuing to exist long after the reasons for its existence had ceased. The town's history began in the 1870s with the advent of copper mining in the area, construction of the Australian Overland Telegraph Line and The Ghan railroad and began to decline in 1941 with the beginning of coal mining at Leigh Creek. The fortune of the town was sealed by the 1983 realignment of the main road away from the town. The footage for this film was recorded in Sep-Oct 2014, and this edit-version is from May 2018.
The 8750 km and other distances reported were my estimates based on Google Maps information. The real length of the journey was 9766 kilometres however, with an average of 250 km per day.
So apparently there was 1016 km more local driving than already taken into account in the estimate.
The total length in time was 39 days, from 20th of September until 28th of October 2014.

Jack Absalom's: The Journey To Lilliput

Essentially this program is all about safe caravanning and an extraordinary journey into a fascinating part of outback Australia.

This journey takes us from Broken Hill in far western New South Wales through South Australia's wheat belt on to Port Pirie and Port Augusta, across the Eyre Peninsula towards Ceduna.

We will meet farmers, miners and fishermen. Bet you didn't know that the best bait to catch King George Whiting is a mollusc called a razor fish. Bet you also didn't know that Dutch explorers mapped this coastline in 1627 and they were going to settle there some 70 years before The First Fleet ever left England.

The novelist Jonathon Swift, who wrote Gulliver's Travels, used these early explorers' maps to create the setting for his story. Hence the area being known as Lilliput, after the tiny Lilliputians who captured Gulliver.

We love this spot along Gorge rd South Australia such a nice place to sit and relax, this was well needed water down steam.

Umoona Opal Mine and the Opal Inn Caravan Park - Discover Downunder - Episode 7, Part 1

Brooke heads underground to visit the Umoona Opal Mine, which is situated on the main street of Coober Pedy. Owner Yani is very keen to show off his mine and display home - and of course his opals. After the opal is found, it goes to the workshop where it's cut and polished and then designed as a piece of jewellery to suit the individual stone and each stone has its own personality and character. The opal is Australia's gem stone, and it's the only stone that has more than one colour - it comes in every colour of the rainbow, as Yani explains. It's known as the queen of the gems.
