【4K UHD BEAUTIFUL MELBOURNE AUSTRALIA】 Pink Lake, Dimboola VICTORIA
A few kilometers west of town, next to the Western Highway, you can find Pink Lake. This lake is easily viewed from the rest-stop beside the highway and you can walk down the path to the edge of the lake.
As you walk along the path to the lake, you will see yellow gums, buloke trees and paperbarks, giving way to the smaller and very distinctive salt tolerant plants that grow in this unique environment. The pink colour of the water comes from a pigment secreted by microscopic algae. The intensity of the pink varies with the amount of water in the lake. When the lake is drier more light is reflected from the white crystallized salt reducing the impact of the pink.
The salt was commercially harvested from the lake for many years and some of the relics from that time can still be seen near the edge of the lake.
The story about harvesting and selling of Pink Lake Salt that was broadcast on Lateline in July 2009 generated a great deal of interest in the commercial availablilty of the salt from Pink Lake. You can read the transcript through the link below. As soon as details about how to purchase this salt are known, the information will be posted here.

Why lake Hillier has an unusual PINK COLOUR (Western Australia)
Lakes come in different sizes, shapes and tend to have different colors of the water. But, while having dark black, green or blue water color doesn’t usually cause the suspicion, a lake with an unusual pink-colored water looks either fake or completely unique.
Hillier, which is located on the edge of Middle Island in Western Australia, is a pink-colored lake, which is surrounded by a rim of sand and a dense woodland.
Even though the reason of the unusual coloring of the water is a complete mystery, many scientists connect it with the vital functions of the organism called Dunaliella salina. Learn more about lake Hillier (fair use footage): youtube.com/watch?v=qxsGXHKEqh0

The lake often turns a red pigment in the warmer months before turning to its usual blue in autumn.
Algae growing in the salt crust at the bottom of the lake produces the red pigment (beta carotene) as part of its photosynthesis process and in response to the extremely high salt levels, Parks Victoria said on Facebook.
(Westgate Park) is a nature sanctuary located in the heart of industrial Melbourne. Having undergone many transformations before emerging as one of Melbourne’s most visible parks, Westgate Park is a vibrant example of how a wasteland can become a flourishing ecological and recreational wetland environment. (Westgate Melbourne) Park offers a range of attractions and activities, located along the eastern banks of the Yarra River under the Westgate Bridge; the park offers spectacular views to the mouth of the Yarra and the city skyline. Enjoy a picnic lunch with friends or family or cycle along the Yarra River or the Port Melbourne foreshore. The healthy bird population also attracts bird watching enthusiasts. Pink Lake • Gehe hier niemals schwimmen • Weltreise VLog #10
