Boosey is a locality in the Shire of Moira. It has a family-owned cheese company called 'Boosey Creek Cheese' that sells many cheeses including their own which are named after localities in the area. Boosey post office opened on 1 August 1882 and was closed on 17 January 1948. Boosey North post office opened on 2 July 1883 and was on 1 July 1893. Burramine West post office was in the locality of Boosey and was opened on 16 October 1878 and was closed on 28 March 1884.

Beechworth is a well-preserved historical town located in the north-east of Victoria, Australia, famous for its major growth during the gold rush days of the mid-1850s. At the 2011 census, Beechworth had a population of 2,789. Beechworth's many historical buildings are well preserved and the town has re-invented itself and evolved into a popular tourist destination and growing wine-producing centre.

Music for a Festival written at the request of Boosey & Hawkes Band Festivals for the Youth Section Finals of the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain, 1985. The wind band transcription was commissioned by Chris Hooker for the Hounslow Youth Wind Orchestra in 1989, with the composer conducting.

The work is one continuous but it does fall distinctly into three sections:

0:00 The piece starts with an extended fanfare, which reappears at various points throughout the work. This leads to the to the syncopated, jazzy main theme, played in turn by various sections of the band. After several contrasting interludes, the main theme returns, quietening down to introduce the 2nd movement.

4:39 Sensitive quartet writing for the woodwinds opens a slow movement. A full band climax leads to a nostalgic solo for baritone saxophone (written for bassoon) followed by solo clarinet. A sentimental broad fanfare leads back to the calm yet touching quartet opening.

9:22 The third section opens with a burst from the percussion and tutti woodwind. The main theme is introduced by the flutes quickly afterwards and played later by the whole band. After further development of the theme a cantabile tune appears on clarinets and saxophones. The rhythmic tune returns and reaches a climax when the fanfare which opened the first movement appears on the brass. After a brief grand pause, the work gallops to an energetic close.

Philip Sparke was born in London and studied composition, trumpet and piano at the Royal College of Music where he wrote several works for the College Wind Orchestra. Sparke has numerous works for brass and wind band to his credit and his conducting and adjudicating activities have taken him to Australia, New Zealand, Japan, the US and most European Countries.
