Sherbrooke is a settlement in Victoria, Australia, 35 km east of Melbourne. Its local government area is the Shire of Yarra Ranges. At the 2006 census, Sherbrooke had a population of 196. Permanent European settlement began with Robert W. Graham, an ex sea captain who spent eight years living in Quebec, Canada, before migrating to Australia with his family. He built a small house Merrimu, hand-cut from the forest, using horizontal-slab wall construction, an adobe floor, weatherboards and a sapling/shingle roof. My experience taking the hike up the Kokoda Memorial Trail- 1,000 steps- in Upper Ferntree Gully, Dandenong Ranges, Melbourne, Australia. It is in memory of the journey Australian soldiers took on the Kokoda Trail in Papua New Guinea during World War II with plaques along the way up the 1,000 steps depicting their journey. It is a great tourist attraction for those thinking of holidaying in Melbourne- I highly recommend you give the trail a go. For locals it's become part of their fitness routine.

Exploring The Dandenongs | Sherbrooke Falls, William Ricketts Sanctuary, Sassafras

We took off in our hire car and visited the Dandenong Ranges today - we unfortunately didn't make it up to the top of Mount Dandenong and the sky deck there as the weather was bad and we didn't want to pay the $7 entry fee to go bad views. So we took a walk up the Sherbrooke Falls Track, visited the William Ricketts Sanctuary and then headed for a brief stop in the town of Sassafras.

The highlight of the day was the William Ricketts sanctuary as it was free!
