Rapidan is a small unincorporated community in the Virginia counties of Culpeper and Orange, approximately 5 miles northeast of the Town of Orange. The community, located on both sides of the Rapidan River, was established in the late eighteenth century around the Waugh's Ford mill. The Orange and Alexandria Railroad built a line through the town in 1854, a post office was built at the river crossing, and its name was changed to Rapid Ann Station. 1. Cedar Mountain Battlefield Rapidan
The Battle of Cedar Mountain, also known as Slaughter's Mountain or Cedar Run, took place on August 9, 1862, in Culpeper County, Virginia, as part of the American Civil War. Union forces under Maj. Gen. Nathaniel P. Banks attacked Confederate forces under Maj. Gen. Thomas J. Stonewall Jackson near Cedar Mountain as the Confederates marched on Culpeper Court House to forestall a Union advance into central Virginia. After nearly being driven from the field in the early part of the battle, a Confederate counterattack broke the Union lines resulting in a Confederate victory. The battle was the first combat of the Northern Virginia Campaign.

2. Skyline Drive Shenandoah National Park
Skyline Drive is a 105-mile road that runs the entire length of the National Park Service's Shenandoah National Park in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, generally along the ridge of the mountains. The drive's northern terminus is at an intersection with U.S. Route 340 near Front Royal, and the southern terminus is at an interchange with US 250 near Interstate 64 in Rockfish Gap, where the road continues south as the Blue Ridge Parkway. The road has intermediate interchanges with US 211 in Thornton Gap and US 33 in Swift Run Gap. The National Museum of the Marine Corps is the historical museum of the United States Marine Corps. Located in Triangle, Virginia near MCB Quantico, the museum opened on November 10, 2006, and is now one of the top tourist attractions in the state, drawing over 500,000 people annually.In July 2013, the museum announced plans for a major expansion, to include sections on more modern Marine Corps history, such as the 1983 Beirut barracks bombing, a combat art gallery, and a war on terror gallery.

John Brown's raid on Harpers Ferry was an effort by armed abolitionist John Brown to initiate an armed slave revolt in 1859 by taking over a United States arsenal at Harpers Ferry, Virginia. Brown's party of 22 was defeated by a company of U.S. Marines, led by First Lieutenant Israel Greene. Colonel Robert E. Lee was in overall command of the operation to retake the arsenal. John Brown had originally asked Harriet Tubman and Frederick Douglass, both of whom he had met in his transformative years as an abolitionist in Springfield, Massachusetts, to join him in his raid, but Tubman was prevented by illness and Douglass declined, as he believed Brown's plan would fail.

Kings Dominion is an amusement park located in Doswell, Virginia, 20 miles north of Richmond and 75 miles south of Washington, D.C.. Rapidan Camp Tour

Rapidan Camp was President Hoover's weekend retreat. It was a precursor to Camp David in Maryland. It's now part of Shenandoah National Park where you can either hike or take a van for a tour. The tour meets at Big Meadows Byrd Visitor's center.
The van ride has some pretty good shots of the Big Meadows.

Lower Falls on Staunton River in Shenandoah National Park, Virginia

Graves Mill area in Shenandoah National Park, Madison County, Virginia. This is another short hike in one of my favorite places to visit in Madison County, Virginia. I stop here almost every time I'm in the area. I start my hike at the Graves Mill access area of Shenandoah National Park, a small parking lot along the Rapidan River near Wolftown. The hike begins on the Graves Mill Trail, which runs parallel to the river. I continue this trail until it reaches the confluence of the Rapidan and the Staunton River, which despite the name is more like a creek than a river. It is a short hike upstream following the Staunton River to a nice cascading waterfall with a pool below the falls. As far as I know the falls themselves are not named. There are numerous cascades, waterfalls, and swimming holes all along this creek; however, today I did not have much time and I turned around after viewing the first waterfall. Thanks for watching!
