Wudinna is a town in South Australia. The area was first settled by Europeans in 1861 when Robert George Standley lodged a claim for 10 square miles of land surrounding Weedna Hill . It was proclaimed a town in 1916. It is on the Eyre Highway across the top of Eyre Peninsula. It is the seat of the Wudinna District Council.The region is known as The granite country for its deposits of granite in the area, with tourists able to travel the granite trail to explore local landmarks. Murphy's Haystacks are inselberg rock formations located at Mortana, between Streaky Bay and Port Kenny on the Eyre Peninsula in South Australia. They are of a 'tumulus' form of weathered granite outcrop. They are made of a pink, massive, coarsely equigranular rock consisting mostly of quartz and orthoclase. Their appearance may be due to a combination of erosion by underground rainwater and then by subsequent weathering after they were exposed. Most of the pillars emerge without a break from the underlying granite. Their structural base may be of orthogonal or vertically-aligned sheet jointing.They obtained their name because a traveller in a coach saw the formation in the distance. Baird Bay is a small fishing village located 50 kilometres south of Streaky Bay on the west coast of Eyre Peninsula in South Australia. It is situated on the east coast of a bay named Baird Bay which opens into the north end of Anxious Bay.The locality is named after the nearby bay which is named after James Baird, who settled on the shores of Anxious Bay in 1850 before being speared by local Aboriginals on 2 November 1850. The bay was known as Beard's Bay until 5 December 1940 when it was renamed to Baird Bay by proclamation.Although the township is small, Baird Bay has garnered considerable tourist attention due to its Australian sea lion colony, with local tour guides giving interactive swimming sessions with the sea lions and dolphins. Point Labatt is a headland located on the west coast of Eyre Peninsula in the Australian state of South Australia about 39 kilometres south by east of Streaky Bay. It is notable as one of the largest Australian mainland breeding sites for Australian sea lions. The land and the sea adjoining Point Labatt is part of three protected areas - the Point Labatt Conservation Park, the Point Labatt Aquatic Reserve and the West Coast Bays Marine Park.

Highway 1 Australia's greatest road trip: Ep 10 Pildappa Rock

The day's much-anticipated highlight looked set to be a walk through Gawler Ranges National Park, South Australia, to the widely talked about Organ Pipes. While we enjoyed our stroll, it was a rock of a very different kind that captivated our imagination just outside the national park.

We had Pildappa Rock earmarked as a good place to camp, but it is so much more than that.

A giant pink granite inselberg that glows tangerine and gold at sunset, Pildappa Rock stretches for 100m, its flaring, weathered walls cresting like waves frozen in time.

Gentle rock spurs rise three to four storeys high to a lichen-covered summit pockmarked with dozens of gnamma (water) holes, many holding rainwater and sustaining flowering grasses. At its base, there are excellent picnic and camping facilities - shelters, with tables, gas barbecues, lights, rainwater tanks, rubbish bins and toilets. And the camping is free.
