Bambra is a rural locality in the Surf Coast Shire, Victoria, Australia. In the 2016 census, Bambra had a population of 101 people. It is named after an Aboriginal word for mushroom.The locality was initially named Retreat, but was later renamed Bambra after an Aboriginal word for mushroom. The area was opened up for selection in the 1860s. Bambra State School was opened on 20 September 1866, closed temporarily in 1945-1946, and closed permanently in 1969. The Bambra Chapel, a Bible Christian Church, was opened in 1868, and became a Methodist church in 1903. A second church, the Holy Trinity Anglican Church, held its first service on 25 May 1902. 1. Otway Fly Treetop Adventures Weeaproinah
A small sheltered grove of Coast Redwoods, Sequoia sempervirens, can be found about 5 km south of Beech Forest in the Otway Ranges in southwestern Victoria. The trees, known by some as Californian Redwoods, were one of many conifer species planted experimentally at different locations in what was to become the fledgling Aire Valley Plantation. The trees, planted in 1936 by the Forests Commission Victoria, were initially slow to establish but have thrived and grown to a height of over 60 metres. Measurements in 2004 show the trees have the potential to reach as tall as their Californian counterparts if left undisturbed from bushfire, pests and disease, or trampling by tourism.The site has become a popular tourist destination in the Great Otway National Park and has also been classified as a...

WALK: 3.2km | GRADE: Easy | ENVIRONMENT: Sub-temperate Rainforest

Stroll through ancient Myrtle Beech and Sassafras rainforest en route to the Ada Tree, a goliath Mountain Ash that is Victoria’s tallest known tree. Estimated at close to 400-years old, 75-metres tall and with a circumference of 15-metres it’s enormity is best appreciated in the flesh. This leisurely stroll is only 3.2km and will barely work up a sweat as you pass through some remarkable patches of old growth forest.
