Mintaro is a historic town in the eastern Clare Valley, east of the Horrocks Highway, about 126 kilometres north of Adelaide, South Australia. The town lies at the south-eastern corner of the Hundred of Clare, within the Clare Valley wine region. Established in 1849, Mintaro is situated on land which was bought originally by Joseph and Henry Gilbert, which they sub-divided into 80 allotments. Mintaro was originally intended as a stopping and resting place for the bullock teams carting copper ore from the Burra mine to Port Wakefield. By 1876 the population was recorded as 400. Jacob's Creek is an Australian wine label first released in 1976 by Orlando Wines, a wholly owned subsidiary of Pernod Ricard since 1989 and now known as Pernod Ricard Winemakers. The winery still operates in the small township of Rowland Flat, between Lyndoch and Tanunda, in South Australia's Barossa Valley wine-growing region.

Heading north of Adelaide this week to the Clare Valley.

One of the majestic little places to visit in the Clare Valley is the historic town of Mintaro. We spent three nights here and used this as our base to explore the valley, the wineries and all the sights that the Clare valley has to offer.

Only 100km odd from Adelaide it is one of Australia's oldest wine regions and is famous for the production of Riesling wines. The valley has many boutique wineries, galleries, museums and beautiful scenery where you can spend an enjoyable time savouring the delights of this portion of South Australia.

Our Honeymoon Adventure

Phillippa and I got married on the 10th of October 2015. A few weeks later we set-off on a six week adventure for our Honeymoon. To start our trip we returned to one of our favourite cities, Hong Kong. After a week there we headed to Western Australia, where our adventure began properly.

We road-tripped down the Western Coast: snorkelling with turtles and reef sharks, off-roading, camping outback and canoeing.

Christmas Day started with a 4am trip to The Pinnacles and we saw in the New Year among friendly strangers in Margaret River.

After our Western Coast road trip, we made our second visit to Adelaide and caught up with friends and family. We had a laid back end to our adventure in South Australia, before heading home with another quick stop in Hong Kong.

We met some amazing people, saw things we couldn’t have imagined, ate great food and drank fantastic wine! This video is a small glimpse of our adventure and we can't wait to go back one day!
