Rupanyup is a small town in rural Victoria, Australia. As of the 2016 census, it had a population of 536. The name Rupanyup is an Aboriginal word meaning 'branch hanging over water'.The Post Office opened on 22 February 1875 as Karkarooc and was renamed Rupanyup in 1876.The town used to be in the Shire of Dunmunkle but was allocated to the Shire of Yarriambiack when Victoria's municipalities were re-organized in the 1990s. Halls Gap is a town in Victoria, Australia. It is located on Grampians Road, adjacent to the Grampians National Park, in the Shire of Northern Grampians local government area. The town is set in the Fyans Valley at the foot of the Wonderland and Mount William ranges. At the 2011 census Halls Gap had a population of 613. The approximate driving time from Melbourne is 3 hours.

Recently we spent a couple of fun hours at the Australian Pinball Museum in the small Victorian town of Nhill. There are 32 great machines dating from the the 1960s to today and they only cost $1 or $2 to play!

STORYLINE

Australian and Israeli officials joined together on Monday to dedicate a park honouring Australia's military contributions to the founding of the State of Israel.

Today we gather together to commemorate a pivotal moment in the Sinai/Palestine campaign of World War I, when the Australian Light Horse of Lieutenant General Harry Chauvel desert mountain core decisively, bravely,and importantly captured Beersheba on the 31 October 1917, Australian Governor General, Major General Michael Jeffery said at the ceremony.

In so doing, the way was open to outflank the key Turkish-Gaza Beersheba defensive line, leading to the fall of Gaza a week later and Jerusalem on the 9th of December, Jeffery added.

Jeffery became the first Australian Governor General to visit Israel when he and Israeli President Shimon Peres opened the Park of the Australian Soldier in Beersheba in conjunction with Israel's 60th anniversary.

Together they unveiled a sculpture commemorating the Australian Light Horse Brigade's famous charge.

The 1917 charge is a point of pride in the country's military history and has been the subject of two Australian movies.

The battle was the beginning of the end for Turkish rule in the Holy Land. Once the British took control of the area, it cleared the way for Britain to sign the 1917 Balfour declaration promising a place for a Jewish homeland in what would become Israel.

At the park's dedication, young Israeli soldiers mixed with Australian veterans in full dress uniform as Governor General Jeffery praised the park for permanently uniting Israelis with Australia.

The park, which features green spaces and a playground for children with disabilities, was funded by the Pratt Foundation, a charitable fund started by Australian-Jewish businessman Richard Pratt, which works in both Australia and Israel.

About 110,00 Jews live in Australia today, primarily in Sydney and Melbourne.

Australian Jews in the audience said it made them proud to see the Australian flag flying alongside the Israeli one.
