Karnack is a rural unincorporated community in northeastern Harrison County near Caddo Lake in the eastern region of the U.S. state of Texas. The town is named after Karnak, Egypt . It was thought that the community's alignment with the city of Port Caddo was relative to that of Karnack and Thebes. Former First Lady of the United States Lady Bird Johnson was born and reared in Karnack.The Caddo Lake National Wildlife Refuge, formerly the Longhorn Army Ammunition Plant, is located in Karnack.

Caddo Lake State Park is a state park located in eastern Texas. Caddo Lake, the lake that the state park encompasses, is one of only a handful of natural lakes in Texas. The park consists of 8,253 acres west of the lake itself, in Harrison County, near Karnack, Texas. The lake and surrounding area was drilled for petroleum in the 1900s. The lake was created by a gigantic log jam known as the Great Raft.

It is a component of the Mid-Continent Oil Province, the huge region of petroleum deposits extending from Kansas to New Mexico to the Gulf of Mexico. Caddo Lake State Park, Karnack, Texas Cypress Swamp - Arrival - 1

This is the beginning of a series of videos about Caddo Lake State Park, Texas. Caddo Lake is located in far east texas and far Northwestern Louisiana. The lake actually straddles the border. The state park was built in the depression era by the Civilian Conservation Corps and their legacy is seen everywhere in the park. There are several intact structures that they left behind.

Caddo Lake is the largest cypress swamp in the south and possibly the largest in the United States. Caddo Lake is also the only Natural lake in the state of Texas. There are backwaters, bayous and sloughs to explore, everywhere. This video is simply a drive to and through the park to our campsite, later videos we will explore the trails and CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) built structures. We will also explore the waters out in the bayou, as well as, in the swamps and ponds. Caddo Lake State Park, Texas is one of the most picturesque parks we have been to, second only to Enchanted Rock. WE will have to go back when there is a little more green color in the cypress trees.

Episode 54: Alright gang we are continuing down the stagecoach road and found a couple of intriguing spots. So much so, we decided to break-out the sifter for a bit and recover some earthenware; and while doing so, happened across some surprises. Check it out!
