The Beautiful Colchuck Lake Hike, Leavenworth, Washington, PNW, USA
The Colchuck Lake hike is undoubtedly one of the PNW's best and is VFC's favorite, aside from what sits beyond the lakes in the Enchantments.
Sitting at the gateway to the Enchantments, as the slopes of Asgard Pass dive down into the glacial green waters of this beautiful lake. Surrounded by multiple mountain peaks and attainable only by a respectable hiking climb, this mountain paradise is a must-see if you are in the area of Washington's Bavarian town of Leavenworth. Even if you are not, it's certainly worth the drive from anywhere in the state.
It is certainly one of the more crowded in Washington State, especially when you decide to go on a Saturday in the summer, but part of the hiking experience in the PNW is exchanging pleasantries and exchanging small conversation with others who share a love for the outdoors as you do, by making these journeys.
The West Cascades were covered in rain and clouds on this day, so VFC hit the road and drove the 3+ hours to the heavenly sunshine and fresh waters of Colchuck. It was very worth it, needless to say.
The water was cold, the sun was sweet, and VFC was in heaven.
Ah yeah.

RV Living: Leavenworth Washington 2019
RV Living: Leavenworth Washington 2019. This video is about our trip to the small Bavarian themed town of Leavenworth Washington which is located in the beautiful Cascade Mountain Range. We spend a full week exploring everything that Leavenworth Washington and the surrounded cascade mountains had to offer. We stayed at the Thousand Trails RV park which is located about 30 minutes north of the town of Leavenworth Washington. We explored multiple rv camping areas in order to give you a good understanding of where to stay if you plan to travel to this area of the Country. We had a chance to take a dip in their lakes and rivers and as well as a few beautiful hikes.
A sawmill and a healthy logging industry eventually fell apart when the Great Northern Railway Company pulled out of Leavenworth. The re-routing of the railroad and the subsequent closure of the sawmill sadly converted the town from a bustling, thriving hub of commerce into a hollow, empty community. For more than thirty years, Leavenworth lived on the brink of extinction.
But in the early 1960’s, everything changed. In a last-chance effort to turn their precarious situation around, the leaders of the community decided to change Leavenworth’s appearance, hoping to bring tourism into the area. Using the beautiful backdrop of the surrounding Alpine hills to their advantage, the town agreed to remodel their hamlet in the form of a Bavarian village.
Hoping to create more than a mere facelift, the entire community rallied to create the illusion of Bavaria in the middle of Washington State. Besides the complete renovation of the downtown area, community members worked to begin a series of festivals. The Autumn Leaf Festival, Maifest, and the extremely popular Christmas Lighting Ceremony were the first of many attractions Leavenworth offered to passers-by.
The new plan worked. Ever since the change to a Bavarian motif, Leavenworth has become a pillar of the tourism industry in the Pacific Northwest. Today, close to two million tourists come to Leavenworth each year, each visitor finding their own individual love affair with the community. The story is a landmark case of human spirit: The people of Leavenworth not only survived their most critical hour, they endured.
Leavenworth's transformation into a theme town was inspired, and assisted, by Solvang, California. Later, the Washington town of Winthrop followed Leavenworth's example and adopted a Western town theme.
Good Morning America went too Leavenworth for Holiday Gifts for the Globe where GMA helped light up the town for the Christmas Holiday. Leavenworth was also named the Ultimate Holiday Town USA by A&E.
Leavenworth is home to the Leavenworth Nutcracker Museum, which opened in 1995 and contains more than 5,000 nutcrackers dating from prehistoric to modern. Leavenworth hosts an annual Oktoberfest celebration.

Leavenworth Washington - A Cool Town with a Great RV Campground
If you haven't visited Leavenworth Washington in your RV then you're missing out...big time! We heard from some that Leavenworth was cliche and fake, but our experience was totally different. We found a cool town with a fun Bavarian mountain theme, and tons of locals awaiting us with open arms. We ate veggie brats, drank local beer, kayaked the river, consumed lots of local wine, and we can't wait to do it all again!
Check out our website for more details:
We were in Leavenworth to film the Thousand Trails RV Resort and Campground. Normally we don't gush over private campgrounds but this spot is totally cool, and if you're a member of TT it's basically free!
