Okanogen-Wenatchee National Forest Over The Top
John Williams is your host for an accessible tour of the upper Methow Valley in the Okanogen-Wenatchee National Forest. This film was shot before the devestating fire that destroyed so many acres, homes, and lives, of this scenic land. The communities will prosper again, and so will the forests, but the lives of so many were changed over the weeks and months of the summer of 2015. We were in the area just two weeks before the fire caused so much devestation, and were proud to be able to meet some of the young fire fighters training near Winthrop Washington for what would be these fateful days. We dedicate this Accessible Adventure In The Pacific Northwest, to the heroic fire fighters of the US Forest Service, their families, and communities.

Let's Drive Chinook Pass, Washington SR 410W
Chinook Pass is a winding, four-mile stretch of State Route 410 in the South Cascades of Washington, providing the east entrance to Mount Rainier National Park. It is part of the Chinook Scenic Byway and is considered one of the most beautiful routes in the country. Travelers along the route are rewarded with spectacular views of Mount Rainier, the lush alpine meadows surrounding the Tipsoo Lakes, the jagged peaks of the Goat Rocks, and the wilderness areas of the Wenatchee National Forest. Due to its high elevation of 5,430 feet (or 1,655 meters), Chinook Pass usually closes in November because of heavy snows and significant risk of avalanche. The Pass typically opens again in mid-May.

Crystal hunting in Washington State

Take a look at my collection of quartz crystals I picked up after day of rockhounding near Hansen Creek, Washington. Collecting rocks and amateur prospecting is a great hobby and learning experience for all ages. If you live in Washington State or are visiting the area, you can learn more about Hansen Creek online. Here's one site with a map and detail:
Also, I suggest checking with the Washington State Mineral Council and be aware of the Rockhounding Code of Ethics as a way of protecting our heritage of natural resources.
