Cape Disappointment State Park is a public recreation area located southwest of Ilwaco, Washington, on the bottom end of Long Beach Peninsula, the northern headlands where the Columbia River meets the Pacific Ocean. The state park's 2,023 acres encompass a diverse landscape of old-growth forest, freshwater lakes, freshwater and saltwater marshes, and oceanside tidelands. Park sights include the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center, North Head Lighthouse, and Cape Disappointment Lighthouse. Iona Island is a 556-acre bedrock island of the Hudson River in the town of Stony Point, New York. The island is located approximately one mile south of the Bear Mountain Bridge and is separated from the Hudson's western shore by mudflats and freshwater tidal marshes. It is part of Bear Mountain State Park, although it is occasionally listed separately as Iona Island State Park.The island and its adjacent marsh were designated a National Natural Landmark in May 1974, and it is part of the Hudson River National Estuarine Research Reserve. It serves mainly as a bird sanctuary, particularly known as a winter nesting place for bald eagles.

Our road trip along the Washington Coast and Olympic National Park with our awesome Korean Jindo dog, exploring the unique beaches of Ruby, Seabrook, Long Beach, and Lake Quinualt.

TOP TRAVEL TIPS:
*The Washington Coast is beautiful, but it is difficult to go when it's sunny, so try to go when sun is predicted in the forecast.
*Long Beach has much to offer with Cape Disappointment State Park and Beards Hallow- definitely could be done with this trip.
*Cannon Beach and the Oregon Coast is less than an hour away from Long Beach, and La Push where Second Beach is located is less than an hour away from Ruby Beach, so this drive could become an epic road trip if there is enough time.
*We left from Seattle and explored all of the stops in one day, then stayed in Long Beach, probably the nicest ocean sandy beach in Washington.
