INDIAN PACIFIC TRAIN Review – Luxury Train Travel with Great Southern Rail, Australia
Full article:
The iconic transcontinental journey aboard one of Australia's most iconic luxury trains: Great Southern Railway's Indian Pacific Train.
Soundtrack: Eagle Rock by Wes Hutchison
The journey starts in Perth and first passes through the lovely Avon Valley before reaching more remote regions. The first day ends with a visit to the old gold mining town of Kalgoorlie, including a city tour and a bird's eye view of the saw called Super Pit, a 3.6km wide open cut gold mine that operates 24/7.
Overnight the Indian Pacific luxury train travels into the Nullarbor Plain, named after the Latin null'arbor = no tree.
Midday reaches the small dwelling of Cook, once a thriving town of 200 literally in the middle of nowhere, but now reduced to a refueling stop for the Indian Pacific train and a population of 5. The vastness of the Australian continent becomes apparent on this day especially.
Overnight the luxury train journey reaches Adelaide and the next morning begins with a city tour and excursion to Mount Lofty with spectacular views. From their Great Southern Rail continues through the Barossa Valley, a famous wine region and on to Broken Hil for the final excursion on this trip.
The next morning, the Indian Pacific luxury train passes through the mythical Blue Mountains and finally reaches Sydney at midday.
Luxury Train travels are a wonderful way to see beautiful scenery while enjoying style and pampering. The Indian Pacific and Ghan train offer that kind of exquisite experience in both their Gold and Platinum classes. Each cabin is fitted with private bathrooms and all meals and drinks are included as well as all off-train excursions.

TEMPLE OF ENTHUSIASM - Deus Ex Machina in Bali
From the stack of hunting me lately skeuomorphic video bins, a particular set of short clips has recently surfaced. It featured scenes from very ordinary afternoon stopover at The Temple of Enthusiasm - Deus Ex Machina near Canggu beach in Bali. My frequent visits there were usually caused by urgency of getting slowest food or the fastest wifi in the area. Integral part of each visit was caused by amazement of ever-changing displays of custom-frankensteined 'Café Racers'. Riding a motorbike must be just like indulging in opiates. You can never fully recover from falling for them. You might decide one day that biking is too risky and that you have too much on stake, but despite of what you say, you will never be able to scratch this itch away from your life.
Indonesian afternoon sun looks particularly gorgeous when reflected from the chromed fenders and exhausts. Store, gallery, restaurant, patio, skatepark and workshop are coexisting as one unified cult-like experience on their farm. Grounds of the Temple of Enthusiasm emanates with particular energy convincing that motorbike is all what you really want and need in life. Surfing comes shortly after. While in some countries this is not even a big deal, it is quite significant sub-culture label and commitment in others. Despite my hidden urges I never allowed myself to sink to that spiral. It was too Australian for my Indonesian focus at the time. Raiding bikes and waves are two very different experiences but they do go together. Perfect combination to challenge the frontier of your choice.
