Cape Bridgewater is a locality in the Australian state of Victoria located on the western shore of Bridgewater Bay about 21 kilometres south-west of Portland and about 383 kilometres west of Melbourne. The Discovery Bay Marine National Park is a protected marine national park located in the Western District of Victoria, Australia The 2,770-hectare marine park is located near Portland, and extends along 6 kilometres of coastline on the western side of Cape Bridgewater, from Cape Duquesne to Blacks Beach, and offshore 3 nautical miles to the limit of Victorian waters. The Discovery Bay Coastal Park protects the adjacent coastline.

Tantanoola is a town in South Australia. The name is derived from the aboriginal word tentunola, which means boxwood / brushwood hill or camp. Tantanoola was originally named 'Lucieton' by Governor Jervois after his daughter Lucy Caroline, on 10 July 1879. It was changed by Governor Robinson to 'Tantanoola' on 4 October 1888. At the 2006 census, Tantanoola had a population of 255.Tantanoola is in the Wattle Range Council local government area, the South Australian House of Assembly electoral districts of MacKillop and Mount Gambier, and the Australian House of Representatives Division of Barker.

The lighthouse was completed in 1884 and today offers accommodation in the Light Station Keepers Cottages. Part of the route of the Great South West Walk is located within the park.Fauna include the Heath Mouse, Red-necked Wallaby and Echidna. The main vegetation types are listed as Soap Mallee, Heath and Wet Heath. The Cape Nelson lighthouse featured in the 2010 romantic drama South Solitary. The film provides good coverage of the interior of the lighthouse, cottage features and the landscape.

Great South West Walk -end to end - starting in Nelson, VIC - 250 km over 13 days

The Great South West Walk is a 250 km walking track, located in South West Victoria, Australia. The route passes through the Lower Glenelg National Park, the Cobboboonee National Park, the Discovery Bay Coastal Park and the Cape Nelson State Park. The hike is a 12 to 14 day circular hike starting and finishing in either Portland or Nelson.
