GERMANY: EXPLORING the historic WW2 BRIDGE at REMAGEN
SUBSCRIBE: - Let's visit the historic Ludendorff Bridge (sometimes referred to as the Bridge at Remagen) which was in early March 1945 one of two remaining bridges across the River Rhine in Germany when it was captured during the Battle of Remagen by United States Army forces during the closing weeks of World War II. Built in World War I to help deliver reinforcements and supplies to the German troops on the Western Front, it connected Remagen on the west bank and the village of Erpel on the eastern side between two hills flanking the river. At the end of Operation Lumberjack (March 1–7, 1945), the troops of the American 1st Army approached Remagen and were surprised to find that the bridge was still standing. Its capture enabled the U.S. Army to establish a bridgehead on the eastern side of the Rhine. After the U.S. forces captured the bridge, German forces tried to destroy it multiple times until it collapsed on March 17, 1945, ten days after it was captured, killing 28 U.S. Army Engineers. While it stood, the bridge enabled the U.S. Army to deploy 25,000 troops, six Army divisions, with many tanks, artillery pieces and trucks, across the Rhine. It was never rebuilt. The towers on the west bank were converted into a museum and the towers on the east bank are a performing art space. Vic Stefanu, vstefanu@yahoo.com

Linz am Rhein (in English Linz on the Rhine) is a municipality in the district of Neuwied, in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. It is situated on the right bank of the river Rhine near Remagen, approx. 25 km southeast of Bonn and has about 6,000 inhabitants. It is the sister city of Marietta, Georgia in the United States, Linz in Austria and Pornic in France. Linz is the seat of the Verbandsgemeinde (collective municipality) Linz am Rhein. The town is also a destination for tourists thanks to its location next to the Rhine river and its colorful half-timbered houses. The town of Linz was first mentioned in an official document in 874 and called Lincesce. Between 1206 and 1214 the parish church of St. Martin was built at the most elevated spot of the town. A former church, which was located at the same place, had been destroyed during the fights of Otto IV and Philip of Swabia in 1198. During reconstruction work in 1981 the remains of graves and foundations belonging to the former church were found.

Remagen is a town in Germany in the Land Rhineland-Palatinate, in the district of Ahrweiler. It is about a one-hour drive from Cologne, just south of Bonn, the former West German capital. It is situated on the left (western) bank of the River Rhine. There is a ferry across the Rhine from Remagen every 10–15 minutes in the summer. Remagen has many beautiful and well-maintained buildings, churches, castles and monuments. It also has a sizeable pedestrian zone with plenty of shops. Overlooking the west bank of the Rhine just north of the city centre is the Apollinaris kirche (Church). It has a great observation deck that is only open to parishioners on Sundays. Pedestrians reach the church via a dirt trail that passes a series of roadside monuments representing each of the fourteen Stations of the Cross. The church grounds contain an outdoor crypt and an abbey. Further down the river is one of the many castles along the River Rhine, perched even higher than the Apollinaris kirche.
Koblenz, Germany - German Corner (Deutsches Eck), emotional site -
The headland area of Germany where the Rhine River & the Moselle (Mosel) River converge is known as Deutsches Eck (German Corner). Located in Koblenz (aka Coblenz) it is a very impressive sight to behold, with sweeping views of both rivers, and a magnificent statue that dominates the scene. It is the equestrian statue of William I, first German Emperor; it was originally erected in 1897 in appreciation of his merits in the unification of Germany.
The original statue was destroyed during WWII, with this particular statue being a replica that was put in its place in 1993. In addition to being a historical area it is also has high emotional significance to the German people. Needless to say, it is also a highly popular visitor and tourist attraction. In the plaza, there are 16 flags flying, symbolizing the various German states.

My channel is one of the most prolific from Poland, although not amongst the most visited. With almost one film per day, one may be forgiven for thinking I do nothing else but I do have a day job as well. I have produced around 1,000 original films, most in English but also in Polish, French, Italian, Spanish and the occasional hint of German and Hebrew. My big interest in life is travel and history but I have also placed films on other subjects
Please feel free to ask questions in the public area or to comment on things you disagree with. Sometimes there are mistakes because I speak without preparation. If I see the mistakes myself, I make this clear in the text. Please also leave a star rating!
There are a number of films here on the packaging industry. This is because I am the publisher of Central and Eastern European Packaging -- - the international platform for the packaging industry in this region focusing on the latest innovations, trends, design, branding, legislation and environmental issues with in-depth profiles of major industry achievers.
Most people may think packaging pretty boring but it possibly effects your life more than you really imagine!
Central and Eastern European Packaging examines the packaging industry throughout this region, but in particular in the largest regional economies which are Russia, Germany, Poland, Czech Republic, Ukraine and Austria. That is not to say that the other countries are forgotten, they are not, but obviously there is less going on. However the fact that there are so many travel related films here is not from holidays but from business trips attending trade fairs around the region. Every packaging trade fair is a new excuse to make another film!
In 1997 I founded Polish Business News .There are a number of business related films here and I intend to do many more on CRM (customer relations management).
My blog can be found via and and contains background information and more details of many of my films. This information is in English.
Koblenz to Königswinter, Rhine valley views from a train, Germany - 9th August, 2017
Koblenz to Königswinter, Rhine valley views of Rhineland-Palatinate and Nordrhein-Westfalen from a regional train, Germany - 9th August, 2017.
In August 2017 I had a five day break in Germany, travelling from Stuttgart to Düsseldorf. This film features the journey from Koblenz Hauptbahnhof to Königswinter. The film was made with a window mounted Veho Muvi action cam.
The railway line from Koblenz to Königswinter hugs the River Rhine for much of the route and is a very scenic journey indeed. The beauty of this landscape helped inspire the romantic poetry movement of the 18th and 19th Centuries.
En-route, the train travels through: Ehrenbreitstein, Vallendar, Engers, Neuwied, Irlich, Leutesdorf, Oberhammerstein, Hammerstein, Rheinbrohl, Bad Hönningen, Leubsdorf, Wallen, Linz am Rhein, Erpel, Unkel, Rheinbreitbach, Bad Honnef, and Rhöndorf.
