Pirmasens is an independent town in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, near the border with France. It was famous for the manufacture of shoes. The surrounding rural district was called Landkreis Pirmasens from 1818 until 1997, when it was renamed to Südwestpfalz. Pirmasens can be easily mistaken with Primasens, of which means a first sense in Latin-derived languages.

The term Siegfried Line refers to two different German defensive lines, one during the First World War and the other during the Second World War. The original was a line of forts and tank defences built by Germany in northern France during 1916–17, known in German as the Siegfriedstellung . The British referred to it as the Hindenburg Line, a name subsequently adopted by the rest of the Allies. After WW1 the German Fortifications East of the Rhein were required to be demolished due to the Treaty of Versailles. The second, commonly known in German as the Westwall but referred to by the Allies as the Siegfried Line, was built farther east during the 1930s opposite the French Maginot Line. Ehem. Standort der US Truppen. Pirmasens Army Depot Husterhöhkaserne mit Wohnanlagen (Housings). 1997 räumten die US-Truppen fast vollständig ihren Standort Husterhöhe. Durch die Konversion des ehem. Kasernengeländes sind zum Teil schon neue Gewerbeflächen, Universität, Fachhochschule, das neue städtische Stadion, Automeile u.s.w. entstanden.
Jetzt findet man nur noch das US Medical Center Materiel, Europa (USAMMCE) in Pirmasens auf der Husterhöhe.
