Black Forest (Schwarzwald) in Southwest Germany
Schwarzwald, or in english The Black Forest is located in the southwest corner of Germany in the German federal-state of Baden-Württemberg. The Black Forest is a mountainous terrain at about 200-1500 meters above sea level, the highest point being the Feldberg at 1493 m.
This ancient forest is famous for its legends and the black fir trees that dot the landscape. While not particularly high, the mountains offer a wonderful place to go hiking or mountain biking with well-marked trails. Maps available from the tourist offices. There are a few skiing resorts as well offering average but crowded conditions.
The region is famous for its cuckoo clocks, watchmaking, skiing and tourism. There is a large high-tech light engineering industry in the region stemming from the gold-mining and watchmaking days. Almost all tourists are from Germany and Switzerland; the region's tourist industry is therefore not well equipped to deal with guests who don't speak German.
The most important destination in the Schwarzwald is called Titisee, which is a medium-sized lake with associated tourist village and hotels, with very nice views and generally very relaxed and healthy activities. From here it is a short journey to Lake Constance and the city of Konstanz, or to see the Rhein Waterfall at Neuhausen in Switzerland.
Accommodations in the main tourist areas may be cheaper than many of the quaint smaller towns and villages. For a nice hut at a reasonable price, look for a privately-operated Gasthaus, which can be found in villages throughout the area. There are many pleasant surprises waiting, often with excellent home-cooked food and special service, often provided by the family living there for many generations.

Oldest city of Germany
Trier is a significant city. Located in south-west Germany, merely 10 km (6 mi) from the Luxembourg border and 193 km (120 mi) south-west of Frankfurt, it makes a convenient — and very worthwhile — day trip from Cologne or Frankfurt.
Trier is Germany’s oldest city as, in 2,000 B.C. the Assyrians established a settlement here. This Roman colony was founded in the command of Augustus in 16 B.C. and subsequently became a preferred dwelling of several Roman emperors and ultimately became known as “the second Rome.”
Subsequently, it got the popularity as a foremost hub of Constantine the Great, the first Christian Roman king. He even established the oldest church here in the year 326, the Trier Cathedral (Trierer Dom).

How to Use a European Washing Machine by Jocelyn
Washing your clothes while you travel is essential to be able to pack as little as possible and not smell like you fell into a pigsty. Here Jocelyn gives a brief lesson on how to use a washing machine in Europe for Americans who are not used to the European style washing machines.

ein besuch in der Sauschwänzlebahn
The Wutach Valley railway in the Black Forest area of Germany was constructed for military reasons in the 1890's after the German Empire had seized Alsace and Lorraine from the French in the Franco-Prussian War of 1870 and needed a route to move supplies in fear of retaliation by the French. The central section of the original line, closed to passenger traffic in 1974 has been re-opened as a tourist railway and trains run between Blumberg and Weisen; Although these places are only 9.5 km apart, there is a height difference of 250m between the two, and the ruling gradient of 1:100 means that the railway line is actually 26.5 km. The trackbed follows a series of sharp twists and turns, giving rise to its nickname der Sauschwänzlebahn - the pig tail line. There are 4 spectacular viaducts and 6 tunnels, one of which is the only 360° spiral tunnel in Germany. A few days before my visit a freak tornado hit the area breaking down many trees and the line was blocked. Some of the devastation can be seen briefly in the video. Visiting this line gave me the opportunity to meet my long-time German You Tube Friend who lives near this railway and the video is composed of footage by both of us, which is how we both manage to appear on screen at various points.
