Museumsbahn/Railway Bruchhausen-Vilsen Parade 29.7.2016

2015 09 05 47. Great Dorset Steam Fair 2015-09-05
Die Great Dorset Steam Fair findet 2015 zum 47. Mal statt.
The Great Dorset Steam Fair took place in 2015 for the 47th time. After the fields are harvested, they could show here what they have done in previous times with steam engines. For me as a townsman unrelated to agriculture this is very interesting. Compared with 2005 the festival area had almost doubled. There were auto shows and war games in which I am not interested. Also the fair ground with merry-go-rounds looked bigger. There were huge food tents and an extensive musical stage show. On the other hand I think that this year there were lesser Fairground Organs. It must be quite difficult to transport them through the narrow streets. I know in Germany nothing comparable to this fair. Partly the demonstrations on the steam saws looked dangerous. They probably would not be allowed in Germany by the authorities of workers protection.

RPSI - Irland - Croagh Patrick Railtour - 071 40 Diesel Railtour - Mai 2016
- description see down -
The Railway Preservation Society of Ireland is organizing for years a multi-day tour around the island. 1993 we had made the Tour. On the first day there is a train of Whitehead, where the society has his workshop and office to transfer the train to Dublin. We take the train from Dublin Central.
The Tour, this year called Croagh Patrick Rail Tour, after the highest mountain in Ireland.
The steamlocomotiv 85 Merlin, which was built in 1932 in Manchester, is in front of our train.
In Lisburn, where there is a water crane, and Dundalk the locomotiv get water. Like lemmings many participants runs to the locomotive. Other look for the toilet or go to the kiosk.
In the early afternoon we`re reaching Dublin.
Ireland has the same problem, what we know from Germany: Many branch lines were dismantled or are no longer passable. This special trains will be integrated in the railway clock, which sometimes means waiting. Runpasts, etc. are no longer possible. So the filmmakers who do not ride with the train have the better shots.
On Friday May 13, there is a special service on the celebration of the 40 anniversary of the diesel locomotive 071, which has previously got a new old paint. Max. 145 kmh / 90mph can drive the locomotive. The trip goes to Waterford, which is located in the south of Ireland. From Dublin the journey takes about 3 hours on the outward journey. The regular train takes about 2 hours. The route follows Hazelhatch, Newbridge, Kildare, Lavistown to Waterford.
Many stations have been pimped with EU funds.
The return trip passes Limerick Jctn, which is a train station and triangle. From Cherryville it is the same route as in the morning. At 10:35 we start, at 19:13 we are back in Dublin.
Saturday we have the locomotiv Nr. 4, a Class 2-6-4T which was built in 1947 in Derby. We drive over Hazelhatch Kildare Athlone, Claremorris to Westport, which is in the north.
In Claremorris, the locomotive should be rotated on the turntable, so that we can drive next morning in Westport with the chimney in front . Unfortunately, the locomotiv is too heavy. No turning is possible. After approx. 1 hour they give up. From Westport Station drive us 2 buses to the booked hotel where in the evening celebrating a gala dinner. Our hotel is 850 meters from the station.
Day4. On Sunday it was planned to have the train commute between Westport and Castlerea . When we arrive in Claremorris , we have to wait one hour , because we can not go to Ballyhaunis for an embankment fire . When we finally arrive in Ballyhaunis , we can not leave the train, but a diesel engine drives us back to Claremorris . We must stand on the railway station for 4 hours. Good war, that in 1 km away some stores had open on Sunday . Why are we standing around , I did not receive .
Day 5. On monday we start in Westport only five minutes delay, for they startet to filled water zu late. In Athlone the delay is one hour. So we shortened the periods at the stations, so we had to Hazelhatch only 30 minutes delay. Then excitement inside and outside the train. We should all get out, because the train must stopp, because he is alleged to have caused a fire, but this was not proven later. The train manager spoke of a nightmare. We got our bags from the baggage car. Some American guests were restless because they had to get the plane in Dublin yet. Then came the announcement that a train is coming, in which we are to enter. A train from Houston arrived. This we should take. When it is pronounce, that we drive to Connolly the Americans with cheers loud.
It was an interesting tour, where we would normally never have gone. All the volunteers of the club have done a great job, were friendly and one always liked to help, if we have problems with the language.
