3. Hermannsdenkmal Detmold
The Hermannsdenkmal is a monument located southwest of Detmold in the district of Lippe, in Germany. It stands on the densely forested Grotenburg, sometimes also called the Teutberg or Teut, a hill in the Teutoburger Wald range. The monument is located inside the remains of a circular rampart. The monument was constructed between 1838 and 1875 to commemorate the Cherusci war chief Arminius and his victory over Rome at the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest in 9 AD. When the statue was built, its location was believed to be near the original battle site, although experts now consider it more likely that the battle took place near Kalkriese, about 100 km to the north-west.

The Edersee Dam is a hydroelectric dam spanning the Eder river in northern Hesse, Germany. Constructed between 1908 and 1914, it lies near the small town of Waldeck at the northern edge of the Kellerwald. Breached by Allied bombs during World War II, it was rebuilt during the war, and today generates hydroelectric power and regulates water levels for shipping on the Weser river. At low water in late summers of dry years the remnants of three villages and a bridge across the original river bed submerged when the lake was filled in 1914 can be seen. Descendants of those buried there go to visit the graves of their ancestors.

Weltvogelpark Walsrode is the largest bird park in the world in terms of species as well as land area , It covers 24 hectares and houses some 4,400 birds of over 675 species from every continent and climatic zone in the world. The Weltvogelpark Walsrode celebrated its fiftieth anniversary in 2012.

Calenberg Castle was a medieval lowland castle in central Germany, near Schulenburg in the borough of Pattensen, 13 km west of the city of Hildesheim. It was built as a water castle in 1292 by the Welf duke, Otto the Strict, in der Leine river meadows between 2 branches of the Leine river on the southern part of the chalk marl hill of the Calenberg. At the start of the 16th century it was converted into a fort . In the 15th century, Fort Calenberg gave its name to the Welf Principality of Calenberg. Following the Thirty Years' War it lost its military importance and was slighted. Today it is a ruin with underground vaults that are surrounded by high ramparts.

Peine - Unterwegs in Niedersachsen (Folge 41)

In dieser Folge zeigen wir die Kernstadt von Peine. Neben den Sehenswürdigkeiten zeigen wir in dieser Folge auch das Kreismuseum von Peine. Peine liegt an der Fuhse zwischen dem Harz und der Lüneburger Heide und zugleich zwischen den beiden größten Oberzentren Niedersachsens, der 40 Kilometer westlich gelegenen Landeshauptstadt Hannover und dem 25 Kilometer östlich gelegenen Braunschweig. Weitere größere Städte im näheren Umkreis sind Hildesheim, Salzgitter, Wolfsburg und Celle. Diese interessante Lage machte Peine seit seiner Gründung bei den umliegenden Herrschern begehrt, weshalb die Stadt in zahlreiche Auseinandersetzungen verwickelt war.
