The Rothaarsteig is a 154.80 km long hiking trail along the crest of the Rothaargebirge mountain range in Germany in the border region between the states of North Rhine-Westphalia and Hesse . It was opened in 2001.

The Edersee Dam is a hydroelectric dam spanning the Eder river in northern Hesse, Germany. Constructed between 1908 and 1914, it lies near the small town of Waldeck at the northern edge of the Kellerwald. Breached by Allied bombs during World War II, it was rebuilt during the war, and today generates hydroelectric power and regulates water levels for shipping on the Weser river. At low water in late summers of dry years the remnants of three villages and a bridge across the original river bed submerged when the lake was filled in 1914 can be seen. Descendants of those buried there go to visit the graves of their ancestors.

4. Hermannsdenkmal Detmold
The Hermannsdenkmal is a monument located southwest of Detmold in the district of Lippe, in Germany. It stands on the densely forested Grotenburg, sometimes also called the Teutberg or Teut, a hill in the Teutoburger Wald range. The monument is located inside the remains of a circular rampart. The monument was constructed between 1838 and 1875 to commemorate the Cherusci war chief Arminius and his victory over Rome at the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest in 9 AD. When the statue was built, its location was believed to be near the original battle site, although experts now consider it more likely that the battle took place near Kalkriese, about 100 km to the north-west.

Glückel of Hameln was a Jewish businesswoman and diarist. Written in her native tongue of Yiddish over the course of thirty years, her memoirs were originally intended to be an ethical will for her children and future descendants. Glückel's diaries are the only known pre-modern Yiddish memoirs written by a woman. The Memoirs of Glückel of Hameln provide an intimate portrait of German-Jewish life in the late seventeenth to early eighteenth centuries and have become an important source for historians, philologists, sociologists, literary critics, and linguists.

7. Zoo Osnabruck Osnabruck
Zoo Osnabrück is located in south Osnabrück at the hillside of Schölerberg in Osnabrück, Germany. It was founded under the name Heimattiergarten, and opened during the summer of 1936. Almost 3000 animals from ca 300 species can be seen on the 23.5 ha land. It is famous for housing the Grolar Bear. This brought about many scientific inquiries into the zoo.During 2010 865.000 visitors entered the gates, and in 2011 over 1.030.000 persons visited Zoo Osnabrück.

The Externsteine [ˈɛkstɐnʃtaɪnə] is a distinctive sandstone rock formation located in the Teutoburg Forest, near the town of Horn-Bad Meinberg in the Lippe district of the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The formation is a tor consisting of several tall, narrow columns of rock which rise abruptly from the surrounding wooded hills. In a popular tradition going back to an idea proposed to Hermann Hamelmann in 1564, the Externsteine are identified as a sacred site of the pagan Saxons, and the location of the Irminsul idol reportedly destroyed by Charlemagne; there is however no archaeological evidence that would confirm the site's use during the relevant period. The Sauerland is a rural, hilly area spreading across most of the south-eastern part of North Rhine-Westphalia, in parts heavily forested and, apart from the major valleys, sparsely inhabited.
For these reasons, it has been chosen as the first place in Germany to reintroduce the Wisent (European bison).
The Sauerland is the largest tourist region in North Rhine-Westphalia, in particular for mountain biking & cycling, water sports and scenic recreation.
The town and Skiliftkarussell of Winterberg in the Hochsauerlandkreis is a major winter sport resort.
Before 1800 the western part of the Sauerland was part of the County of the Mark based in Altena.
The eastern part adhered to the County of Arnsberg, later became known as the Duchy of Westphalia and was owned by the Archbishops and Electorate of Cologne.
The Duchy of Limburg covered a very small area in the lower Lenne river valley.
After the Napoleonic Wars the area became part of Prussia and was integrated into the new province of Westphalia.
After World War II Westphalia was merged with the new federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
Today, the Sauerland belongs to the districts Märkischer Kreis, Olpe and Hochsauerland.
The western part of the Hessian district Waldeck-Frankenberg is also attributed to the Sauerland because of its geomorphological as well as sociocultural similarity and the stark contrast to the rest of the adjoining Hessian landscape.
Today the Sauerland is a popular tourist area, attracting many visitors from the Ruhr Area and relatively close Netherlands.
The forests and picturesque small towns are attractive for hikers and outdoor sports.
There are more than 30,000 km of tagged hiking trails in Sauerland region maintained by Sauerland hiking association.
Some of the towns have the title Bad (Spa) because of their good air quality and stimulating climate.
Winter sports are popular in the Sauerland.
The bob sleigh track in Winterberg is widely known in Germany, as well as the ski jumping in Willingen.
Sauerland also has a successful theme park called Fort Fun.
Balve Cave is one of the biggest prehistorical caves of Europe and is situated in Balve.
The largest accessible limestone cave outside the Alps is in Attendorn.
