Hagen is the 41st-largest city in Germany. The municipality is located in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. It is located on the south eastern edge of the Ruhr area, 15 km south of Dortmund, where the rivers Lenne and Volme meet the river Ruhr. As of 31 December 2010, the population was 188,529. The city is home to the FernUniversität Hagen, which is the only state funded distance education university in Germany. Counting more than 67,000 students , it is the largest university in Germany.

Hohenhof is a 1908-built Art Nouveau villa, located within Gartenstadt Hohenhagen in the city of Hagen, Germany. The villa was designed by Belgian architect Henry van de Velde as a Gesamtkunstwerk - incorporating shell, accessories, furnishings, landscape and all into the building's design. The client, German industrialist and arts patron Karl Ernst Osthaus, used the building as his family home until his death in 1921. His children sold the estate to the city of Hagen under the condition to maintain the overall design character. Already beginning in the early 1920s and until the late 1970s, the mansion underwent a number of use-changes. Since then it has been renovated and today houses a publicly open museum.

1. Don't Assume German Are The Cold Stereotypes You Have Heard of Your Whole Life.
2. Don't Jaywalk, so follow the rules in Germany.
3. Don't Forget the Pfand or deposit that you may put down for beer mugs, bottles, cans and other things. You can get that money back.
4. Don't forget to bring flowers or a small gift when visiting a German's home. Also, don't wear your shoes inside their homes.
5. Don't be disrespectful at the Nazi concentration camps and memorials around the country.
6. Don't Wait: when at restaurants or bars order as soon as you can as waiters do not come through to check on tables as often as they do in other countries.
7. Don't Experiment on Driving on the Autobahn. It can be very dangerous for first time drivers.
8. Don't Expect to Shop on Sundays in Germany.
9. Don't forget to bring cash. Germans love to pay in cash and some places will only accept cash. So be ready.

Deutschland - Das Zentrum von Hagen

Hagen ist eine der Städte, die mir als Beispiel dienen, wenn Westdeutsche der Meinung sind, in der DDR gab es große Bausünden. Die gab es zweifellos, aber die gab es im Westen genauso. Der Grund war der Gleiche. Man musste schnell wiederaufbauen. Hagens Stadtzentrum war fast komplett zerstört. Was noch stand, wurde für die Träume der neuen Zeit planiert. Um Geschichte zu erfahren, muss man in Hagen außerhalb des Stadtzentrums suchen. Trotzdem kann ein Aufenthalt rund um den Friedrich-Ebert-Platz durchaus angenehm sein. Besonders in der warmen Jahreszeit, wie mein Video zeigt.

Hagen is one of the cities I serve as an example, when West German are of the opinion, in the GDR, there were large eyesores. Which there was no doubt, but it was in the West as well. The reason was the same. You had to rebuild quickly. Hagen's city center was almost completely destroyed. What was more, was bulldozed for the dreams of the new age. To learn about history, you have to look outside the city center in Hagen. Nevertheless, a stay around the Friedrich-Ebert-Platz be quite pleasant. Especially in the summer, as my video shows.
