    Whyalla , founded as Hummocks Hill and known by that name until 1916, is the third most populous city in the Australian state of South Australia after Adelaide and Mount Gambier. At the 2016 Census, Whyalla had an urban population of 21,751. It is a seaport located on the east coast of the Eyre Peninsula and is known as the Steel City due to its integrated steelworks and shipbuilding heritage. The port of Whyalla has been exporting iron ore since 1903.

    The Hindmarsh Island bridge controversy was a 1990s Australian legal and political controversy that involved the clash of Indigenous Australian religious beliefs and property rights. A proposed bridge to Hindmarsh Island, near Goolwa, South Australia attracted opposition from many local residents, environmental groups and indigenous leaders. In 1994, a group of Ngarrindjeri women elders claimed the site was sacred to them for reasons that could not be revealed.
