GERMANY: Lemgo city / Junkerhaus [HD]
Lemgo's medieval town centre with stone and adorned half-timbered houses date from the Late-Gothic and Renaissance period. Very few towns in Germany have a historical centre restored with such careful attention to detail.
The Town Hall (Rathaus) is listed as a piece of European Union artwork on the UNESCO list 1. Built between the years 1325 and 1612 the house represents an excelent example of Gothic and Renaissance architecture.
The Chancellor Fountain (Kanzlerbrunnen) was built by the sculptor Bonifatius Stirnberg in 1977. Arms and legs of the figures are movable.
The city of Lemgo lies in the heart of the Lippe region of North Rhine Westphalia, Germany. It is located approximately 15km east of the Teutoberg Forest.
The Junkerhaus municipal museum (3:31) is the creation of artist Karl Junker (1850-1912). This two-story wood framed house was his home. The half--timbered frame is covered with pilaster and cornices made of carved boards, strips of wood and latticework.
Karl Junker was as severely schizophrenic as he was talented when it came to architecture, and this fact is evident in the home that became his legacy. The world inside his head provided the blueprint for the Junker House, a home like something out of a nightmare, complete with human faces that stare down from ceilings, twisting caged staircases, skeletal furniture and ghosts.

GERMANY: Brake Castle - Lemgo [HD]
Brake Castle is a moated castle palace in Lemgo (Germany) built in the Renaissance style.
In 1986 the Weser-Renaissance museum was established in one section of the building.
Spread out over 2000 sqm, the museum displays furniture, paintings, and sculptures from the Renaissance period inside the castle's stately rooms.
The castle was rebuilt as the residence of count Simon of Lippe between 1584 and 1592. It is erected on the foundation walls of one of the largest medieval castles in northern Germany.
The castle features a six storey tower where private apartments were accessed by a secret staircase.
Brake Castle was the seat of the Lemgo county administration from 1932 on and was taken over by the association of the historic territory of Lippe in 1973.
The buildings in the castle vicinity -- the attached agricultural-estate buildings, three historic mills and a washhouse -- still convey today an impressive picture of what an early modern residence was like.

GERMANY: Hermann Monument - Teutoburg Forest [HD]
On top of the Hermannsdenkmal (Hermann Monument) you have a spectacular view of the area.
The statue is 53,46m high and is situated in Teutoburg Forest, southwest of Detmold in the district of Lippe, Germany.
It can be seen from many different points of the county, looming above the land from its high point on the densely forested and 386m tall mountain Grotenburg.
The Hermannsdenkmal depicts Hermann (Arminius in Latin), who defeated the Romans in the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest in the year 9 A.D., thus driving them out of the land. This is why the figure crushes the Roman Eagle under its foot.
Construction was started in 1841, but not completed until 1875 with the help of substantial funds from the state of Prussia.
It was built according to plans by the sculptor Ernst von Bandel, who devoted his whole life to it. During construction he lived in a small hut a short distance from the statue (Bandel-Hütte) that can still be visit today.
