5 Top-Rated Tourist Attractions in Oakland, US
Named after the shady oak trees native to this area, Oakland is the smaller city across the San Francisco Bay that has become a hip, up-and-coming destination in its own right. Gertrude Stein would no longer be able to say: there is no there there. While Oakland used to be considered a nondescript manufacturing city, nowadays the town has real style, and much of the locally-made goods are handcrafted artisanal products. A true melting pot, Oakland is home to a diverse population. The city's vibrant African-American community brought traditional soul food, and immigrants from all over the world have opened Ethiopian, Indian, Italian, Mexican, Thai, and other authentic ethnic restaurants that make visiting the city so interesting. Tourists will also enjoy the lively street fairs and summer festivals where multicultural music, dance, and gourmet food awaits. Let's see five tourist attractions in Oakland, California.
1. Lake Merritt
2. Jack London Square
3. Oakland Museum of California
4. Historic Theaters
5. Redwood Regional Park

5 Top-Rated Places to Visit in Berkeley, California | United States Travel Guide
5 Top-Rated Places to Visit in Berkeley, USA
Renowned for its prestigious university and appreciated for its offbeat Bohemian spirit, Berkeley is a stimulating place to visit. The university's inspiring Neoclassical buildings stand loftily in a woodsy hilltop location overlooking the San Francisco Bay. Although this idyllic setting feels completely removed from the world, the campus was the birthplace of the Free Speech Movement and the renegade hippie counterculture of the 1960s. Chaotic and bustling Sproul Plaza continues to be an intense scene of student activity: Students, social activists, and drummers still gather here to express themselves in ways that are impossible to ignore. Besides being an intellectual center, Berkeley is a hub for entertainment and gourmet dining. The local organic food movement began here in the '70s with Chez Panisse, a delightful French-California style bistro that's an obligatory stop for foodies. Tourists can enjoy a delicious meal in the Gourmet Ghetto and then watch a world-class performance at one of Berkeley's award-winning theaters. Nature lovers also have a good reason to visit: The city's gorgeous parks and botanical gardens offer spectacular floral displays and stunning panoramic views. Let's see five best places to visit in Berkeley, California.
1. U.C. Berkeley
2. Gourmet Ghetto
3. Lawrence Hall of Science
4. Tilden Park
5. Botanical Garden

Things To Do In Oakland (San Francisco Bay Area)
When visiting the San Francisco Bay Area, definitely add Oakland to your list. It is a fun city with lots to do. Check out these things when you are visiting the San Francisco Bay Area! Start off the trip to Oakland by heading to Lake Merritt. This peaceful location is a great place to walk, run, or stroll or take a picnic. You can also rent a boat from the Lake Merritt Boating Center for $12 hourly. Head over to the Grand Lake Theater for a movie in this historic building. This beautiful theater is filled with ornate decorations and has two huge screening theaters in addition to smaller ones. You can go on Tuesdays for $5 admission or on Wednesdays you can get free popcorn with your admission ticket. While in the Lake district, you can go to the Grand Lake Farmer’s Market. This farmer’s market runs on Saturdays and has many East Bay and Oakland local vendors and farmers. There is a live music, and food trucks and a nice lawn to relax on. You can even sip a cup of Moroccan coffee there! This farmer’s market is right across the Grand Lake Theater in Oakland. A nice neighborhood of Oakland to explore is Rockridge. This area is filled with lots of shops, restaurants, bookstores, and coffee shops. There is a BART stop here, called Rockridge station. My favorite place to eat there is called Cactus Taqueria. Another great thing to do in Oakland is go to Fenton’s Creamery. This is a delicious restaurant and creamery with specialty ice cream sundaes and lunch and dinner. This place was featured in the Disney/ Pixar movie Up because the animators live in Emeryville, CA and love to go there. These cheap, fun, things to do in San Francisco Bay Area are definitely fun for the whole family.

My Sony HXR-NX100 rode shotgun on a tripod shooting at 4 fps. The tripod was held in place using bungee cords giving it I nice smooth feel, even on bumpy roads. I also used this same camera to shoot various scenes around the country, and to interview folks.

Amtrak Coast Starlight, in a Sleeper Car Bedroom
The overnight 14 Coast Starlight (Amtrak) from Los Angeles to Seattle.
--3 states
--1,377 miles
--36 hours
--29 stops (a few afford a chance for some fresh air, for a few minutes)
--incalculable jaw drops at the beauty seen from along the ocean coastline to the snowy mountain ranges and backdoor views of towns and cities.
I can't recommend this enough! What an experience! What a way to see the country! The whole ride was smooth, quiet, and tranquil. Whether you enjoy a book in the glass-domed car while sipping on some coffee, or nurse a beer through the passing majesty outside your window, you are rocked gently into a relaxation that is unlike any other. The staff was ever ready to accommodate needs and/or wants. Guest speakers rode along, regaling passengers with tales of the flora, fauna, and history of the areas. Fellow passengers were in equal states of awe and wonder, evidenced by the acknowledging head tilts complete with twinkling eyes and hearty grins. Childhood fancy was stirred together with an aged appreciation and I found that though we were moving northward, time had stood still.
Note: Yes...I have since learned to refrain from filming in portrait mode, when using a phone.
