Fun time with friends.
Could be a great romantic outing!
Hermosa Beach is a beachfront city in Los Angeles County, California, United States. Its population was 19,506 at the 2010 census.
The city is located in the South Bay region of the greater Los Angeles area and is one of the three Beach Cities. Hermosa Beach is bordered by the other two, Manhattan Beach to the north and Redondo Beach to the south and east.
The city's beach is popular for sunbathing, beach volleyball, surfing, paddleboarding and bars. The city itself extends only about 15 blocks from east to west and 40 blocks from north to south, with the Pacific Coast Highway running down the middle. Situated on the Pacific Ocean, Hermosa's average temperature is 70 °F (22 °C) in the summer and 55 °F (13 °C) in the winter. Westerly sea breezes lessen what can be high summertime temperatures in Los Angeles and elsewhere in the county and help keep the smog away 360 days of the year.
A paved path, called The Strand, runs along Hermosa's beach from Torrance Beach in the south approximately twenty miles north to Santa Monica. The Hermosa Beach pier is at the end of Pier Avenue, which is one of the beach community's main shopping, eating and partying areas.

Redondo Beach is one of the three Beach Cities in Los Angeles County, California, located in the South Bay region of the Greater Los Angeles area, just 8 miles south of Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). Originally built in 1889, Redondo’s historical Wharf 1 was the first of Redondo’s era of piers, wharfs, and harbors. The Pier is a South Bay landmark offering oceanfront dining, shopping and entertainment. The current seventh generation horseshoe-shaped pier is known for its 70,000 square-feet of open space and as the largest “endless” pier on the California coast.

California travel expert Veronica Hill of tours Redondo Beach Pier in this episode of California Travel Tips. The earliest pier in Redondo Beach dates back to 1889, but the unique V-shaped construction you'll find today debuted in 1916 as one of the most unique piers along the coast. The current pier was reconstructed in 1996 with many historical similarities to the past.
Along the horseshoe-shaped Pier, you'll find plenty of specialty shops and great restaurants, including Kincaid's Bayhouse and the historic Old Tony's, which offer beautiful sunset views of the coast.
The pier is also the spot to pick up some fresh saltwater taffy, buy an oyster pearl, check out a shark exhibit, or take a 25-cent look at the coast.
A fishing license is not required while fishing off California's public piers, but all other regulations apply. Just watch out for the hungry pelicans, who wait anxiously for fresh fish to fly up on the boardwalk.
While you're on the pier, check out the tribute to George Freeth, the first surfer in the United States. Freeth helped Henry Huntington build the largest saltwater plunge in the world here in 1907.
Below the pier you'll find the International Boardwalk, a marina that boasts live music, several seaside boutiques, and the Redondo Beach Fun Factory, where kids can play arcade games or ride the Tilt A Whirl.
This is also the place to rent a kayak or pedal boat for a closer look at Redondo's resident sea lions, who live out beyond the jetty. You can also book a speed boat ride on the Ocean Racer or ride a glass-bottom boat for a glimpse at underwater sealife.
One of my favorite spots is Quality Seafood, a live fish market that's been in Redondo Beach since 1953. It's one of the largest retail seafood markets on the West Coast, and they'll grill your fresh fish to order.
For a quick and inexpensive bite, fuel up on their steamed local crab or fresh clam chowder with a side of ice cold Corona. What a great way to end your day on the pier!

California travel expert Veronica Hill of tours Redondo Beach in this episode of California Travel Tips.
This oceanfront playground is located just 7 miles south of LAX, making it a great day trip or layover from Los Angeles International Airport. Tourists have flocked to Redondo Beach ever since 1889, when the elegant Hotel Redondo was built just steps from the shoreline.
Though the hotel was torn down during Prohibition, the original site at Esplanade and Avenue A is now a hot surfing spot where locals enjoy some killer waves or sunbathe along the shore.
While you're there, take a stroll along the 27-mile biking path that runs all the way to Malibu. It's a popular route for body-conscious rollerbladers, joggers and cyclists seeking to stay fit.
Serious shoppers shouldn't miss Riviera Village, a funky mix of specialty stores along Catalina Avenue. You'll also find some great galleries, salons and sidewalk cafes here.
On a sunny morning, head to the Sporfishing Pier for a down-home breakfast at Polly's, then walk off the calories at the nearby International Boardwalk where you'll find a funky arcade, lively bars and a bustling live fish market.
This is also the place to pick up a glass bottom boat tour, kayak rentals or speedboat ride aboard the Ocean Racer. Couples looking for a bit of romance can book a sunset cruise along King Harbor aboard Gondola Amore.
No matter what activity you choose, you're sure to have a wonderful day in Redondo Beach.
