This fort was completed just before the American Civil War by the United States Army, to defend San Francisco Bay against hostile warships. The fort is now protected as Fort Point National Historic Site, a United States National Historic Site administered by the National Park Service as a unit of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.

HAVE TO SEE THIS | Yosemite National Park in Winter
You have to see this. We visited Yosemite National Park on Christmas Eve in winter. This national park is stunning with snow on it. This was our first ever trip to Yosemite National Park and we are so glad we had the opportunity to spend the Christmas holiday exploring this beautiful park. The night before the park got 10 inches of snow.
We wanted to share what the park looked like during winter and also how you should prepare and plan your trip to the park. It is required that you have chains with you even if you 4 wheel drive. They will NOT let you into the park if you do no have chains with you. There are places to buy chains and also services to help you install them for a fee.
The roads can we icy and you should drive with caution. They do have snow plows that go through the park regularly. And in Yosemite Valley by the lodges there is a free shuttle that will take you around to various views and attractions.
If you are planning a trip to California be sure to add Yosemite National Park to your travel plans. You can't miss this. As full time rvers this was magical and the crowds are bearable. I have seen in summer that Yosemite can get super crowded. So to avoid the crowds come during the winter.

Wawona Campground - Yosemite National Park
Wawona Campground is located in breathtaking Yosemite National Park in Central California's rugged Sierra Nevada Mountain Range. The site is situated at the southern end of the park, 27 miles and 45 minutes from Yosemite Valley, at an elevation of 4000 feet.
The area is forested with a diverse mix of ponderosa pine, incense-cedar, white fir and whiteleaf manzanita, which offers a pleasant combination of sun and shade. The gentle South Fork of the Merced River flows alongside the campground.
Wawona Campground offers family, group and horse campsites. Paved roads and parking spurs, flush toilets, vault toilets and drinking water are provided. Each campsite contains a picnic table, fire ring and a food storage locker. A general store and gas station are located near the Wawona Hotel.

My stay at the Yosemite Southgate Inn & Suites. Very nice room and I had the pool right outside which was nice until it was used and noisy, but even that wasn't bad.
