Washington DC Trip - 10 Sites You CANNOT Miss!
Blog post:
Going on a Washington DC trip? America's capital city is an amazing tourist destination with so many historic sites to visit. Without someone showing you what to see and how to see it, it can be easy to miss important sites! In this video, I share 10 sites in Washington DC that you CANNOT miss!
The first sites to see on your Washington DC trip would be the Arlington National Cemetery and The Pentagon in Virginia. The cemetery is where former U.S. presidents JFK and William Taft were buried and The Pentagon houses the U.S. Department of Defense.
The second site is the Lincoln Memorial. Inside this beautiful greek temple inspired building, you will find a 19 foot statue of former U.S. president Abraham Lincoln.
The third sites would be the Korean and Vietnam Memorials. Both sites honor the U.S. Armed Forces and other participants in the efforts of the Korean and Vietnam battles.
The fourth site is the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, a large statue honoring Martin Luther King Jr., who was an important part of the U.S. Civil Rights Movement in 1964.
The fifth site is the WWII Memorial, which honors all those who participated in the WWII efforts.
The sixth site is the Washington Monument, which is the tall pencil-like structure, honoring former U.S. president George Washington. It is unfortunately closed for renovations until Spring 2019 if you want to go up.
The seventh site is the Jefferson Memorial, which is similar to the Lincoln Memorial, except that it honors former U.S. president Thomas Jefferson and the building is circular.
The eighth site to see on your Washington DC Trip is the most famous... the White House. The best place to view the White House is from Lafayette Square. Tours are also available but must be booked through your Member of Congress (if you live in USA) or your country's embassy in Washington DC (if you don't live in USA).
The ninth site is the U.S. Capitol Building, which houses the House of Representatives and the Senate. You can do a free tour here as well.
The tenth site is the U.S. Supreme Court Building, housing the nation's third branch of government. Certain areas are open to the public and you can also attend a court hearing.
Overall, I hope this list makes it easier to plan your trip itinerary. Also, be sure to comment below which of these sites you are most excited to see!
