Quebec is a province located in eastern Canada, the largest in size and second only to Ontario in population. Predominantly French-speaking (French being the provincial government's official language), Quebec is situated east of Ontario; to the west of Newfoundland and Labrador, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island; to the south of the territory of Nunavut, and finally bordering the U.S. States of New York, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine to its south. The provincial capital of Quebec is Quebec City, the province's largest city is Montreal, the second largest city in Canada.
Quebec is unique among North American tourist destinations. Its French heritage does not only set the province apart from most of its English speaking neighbors, it is also one of the few historical areas in North America to have fully preserved its Francophone culture. Its European feel and its history, culture and warmth have made Quebec a favourite tourist destination both nationally and internationally.

Montreal in Canada has a population of 4,027,100, landmarks, travel, tourism
Greater Montreal is the most populous metropolitan area in Quebec, and the second most populous in Canada after Greater Toronto. In 2015, Statistics Canada identified Montreal's Census Metropolitan Area (CMA) as 4,258.31 square kilometres (1,644.14 sq mi) with a population of 4,027,100.[3]
A smaller area of 3,838 square kilometres (1,482 sq mi) is governed by the Montreal Metropolitan Community (MMC) (French: Communauté métropolitaine de Montréal, CMM). This level of government is headed by a president (currently Montreal mayor Valérie Plante).
The inner ring is composed of densely populated municipalities located in close proximity to Downtown Montreal. It includes the entire Island of Montreal, Laval, and the Urban Agglomeration of Longueuil.
The outer ring is composed of low-density municipalities located on the fringe of Metropolitan Montreal. Most of these cities and towns are semi-rural. Specifically, the term off-island suburbs refers to those suburbs that are located on the North Shore of the Mille-Îles River, those on the South Shore that were never included in the megacity of Longueuil, and those on the Vaudreuil-Soulanges Peninsula. Communities in that area are also informally referred to as the 450, after the telephone area code that has served the region since 1998.
Due to their proximity to Montreal's downtown core, some suburbs on the South Shore (Longueuil, Brossard, Saint-Lambert, and Boucherville) are usually not included in the off-island suburbs even though they are on the mainland.Baie-d'Urfé

Visit Quebec Road Trip | Eastern Townships Travel Guide Video Transcript:
In our last video, Sam and I spent two days enjoying some outdoor adventures in Quebec’s Eastern Townships, and this video is a continuation of that road trip.
After two days in Sutton, we drove to Mont-Mégantic National Park, which was 2 hours away, though in reality it took us longer because we couldn’t resist stopping for some poutine along the way.
This trip was all about enjoying nature and the outdoors, and we once again teamed up with Tourisme Quebec and Merrell Canada. We stayed in a futuristic cabin in the woods, tackled a few hikes, learned about the universe at AstroLab, and stopped at more than one road side attraction along the way.
Now here’s a recap of that trip!
One thing to keep in mind when it comes to hiking in this park, is that it’s divided into two sectors: the Franceville Sector and the Observatoire Sector. The Franceville sector is located in the northwest end of the park, which is where our cabins were so this is where we went hiking.
During our stay in Mont-Mégantic National Park, we also visited the ASTROLab, which is an astronomy research centre focused on making science accessible to the public.
Our main reason for coming all the way out here was to do some stargazing! Mont-Mégantic is located in the heart of the first International Dark Sky Reserve and that means it’s an astronomy lover’s paradise. Because there’s hardly any light pollution in the area, it’s the perfect place to see and study the stars, however, fog and rain did put a bit of a damper on our plans.
We did drive up to Mont Mégantic to see the observatory and Mont Saint-Joseph to see the chapel, but there weren’t too many views to be had on that day.
Because star-gazing wasn’t possible that night, we went out for a nice leisurely dinner at Aux Toits Rouges. This is a country lodge with its own in-house restaurant and we got a little adventurous with our dishes.
The summit of Mont Ham sits at 713 metres above sea level, but it only has a prominence of 358 metres, so it’s a fairly lighthike.
On our road trip through the Eastern Townships, we also took two little detours. The first was to visit Abbaye St-Benoit-du-Lac), which is an abbey known for its multicoloured bricks and tiled floors.
The 2nd was the Marais de la Rivière aux Cerises, which is an area with boardwalks and walking trails through marshland.
And that pretty much brings us to the end of our whirlwind trip through Quebec’s Eastern Townships! We hope you guys enjoyed following along and we’ll see you in the next video.
This is part of our Travel in Canada video series showcasing Canadian food, Canadian culture and Canadian cuisine.

Vieux Old Chateauguay Downtown Driving Tour Québec Canada
Châteauguay is an off-island suburb of Montreal, in southwestern Quebec, located both on the Chateauguay River and Lac St-Louis, which is a section of the St. Lawrence River.
The land was first given to Charles Lemoyne by the governor of New France at the time, the Comte de Frontenac with the intention of setting up a seigneurie in the area. Afterwards the seigneurie was assumed by Zacharie Robutel de la Noue in 1706. In 1763 France relinquished its claims in Canada and Châteauguay was now under British mandate. The seigneurie was bought by Marguerite d'Youville, a founder of the Quebec religious society the Grey Nuns in 1765 and 10 years later construction began on the Church of Saint-Joachim.
Châteauguay played an important part in the colonial history of North America. With the United States having declared war on Britain in 1812, Châteauguay was seen as little more than a good vantage point to post troops to defend Montreal against an invasion. This prong of the American advance on Montreal ended with the Battle of the Châteauguay, where on October 26, 1813, Lieutenant Colonel Charles de Salaberry succeeded in halting the American force of 4,000 advancing on Montreal with only some 400 troops, mostly French-Canadian and 170 Kahnawake Mohawk warriors. The second American incursion towards Montreal was defeated shortly after at Crysler's Farm on November 11.
During the Lower Canada Rebellion, Châteauguay was the scene of a notable action involving Les Patriotes. In November 1838, members of the French-Canadian rebel group, including the leaders of the rebels were arrested: François-Maurice Lepailleur, who was later exiled to Australia, and two natives of Châteauguay, Joseph Duquet and Joseph-Narcisse Cardinal, both of whom were later hanged at the prison at Au-pied-du-courant and subsequently interred beneath a monument to les Patriotes at Notre Dame des Neiges cemetery in Montreal.
