St. Anne De Beaupre Basilica, Quebec City Pilgrimage of St. Anne
My family and I took a trip to Quebec City, to see the St. Anne De Beaupre Basilica, an inspiring and spiritual place in Quebec City for Families.
Dedicated to the Mother of Mary, the devotion to Saint Anne, in Canada, goes back to the beginning of New France, brought lovingly by the first settlers and early missionaries. Located only 20 minutes outside of Quebec City, this shrine recounts St Anne De Beaupre's Miracles.
The Basilica welcomes close to one million visitors annually from across the globe. The growth, and fame of this Pilgrimage, have now made it comparable with the great pilgrimages to Lourdes.
St. Anne is the Patron Saint of Quebec, and celebrates 350 years of history and healing in French Canada. The Pilgrimage of St. Anne is a shining ray of hope in North America for all those who dream of Lourdes, but have not yet seen it.

Canada: Quebec, Basilica of Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré
The Shrine, which celebrated its 350th anniversary in 2008, is one of the oldest pilgrimage sites in North America
The Basilica of Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré has been credited by the Catholic Church with many miracles of curing the sick and disabled. It is an important Catholic sanctuary which receives about a half-million pilgrims each year.
Because of the popularity of the shrine, the building was enlarged several times to accommodate all the pilgrims. In 1876, the first basilica opened for worship. The former basilica was destroyed in a fire on March 29, 1922. The present-day basilica was built on the site of the prior church in 1926.
The architecture of the Shrine of Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré is inspired by the French religious architecture of the Middle Ages. It follows the roman tradition in its archways and detail, but its vast proportions and elevations lend to a more gothic style. The exterior tympanum reminds us of the great European churches. This basilica is one of the rare churches in North America that has five naves each having its own distinct vault. The elevation of the central nave includes three elements that are often seen in gothic cathedrals: large archways, a triforium and tall stained glass windows.
The Immaculate Conception Chapel, situated in the crypt of the Basilica, is consecrated to Mary, daughter of Saint Anne. The lighting and Marian colours create an atmosphere of serenity. A Carrara marble copy of Michael Angelo’s Pieta is placed in this chapel.
