#686 The Royal Canadian Pacific Compendium 2016-10-19
As the title says, this is a compendium of video segments taken between 2011 and 2016 of the Royal Canadian Pacific luxury train, which also serves as Canadian Pacific's Business Train. The video is in chronological order and the videos (I hope) improve with time.
I lifted a good deal of information from various websites for those that may be interested. Some of it is promotional but is also informative.
From The website: (edited)
Canadian Pacific Railway was instrumental in uniting Canada as a nation, joining east and west coasts with a transcontinental rail line.
In the early days of the railway in Canada, Canadian Pacific executives were assigned their own business car in which they would travel in style as they conducted official railway business across the country. As technologies changed the way we travel, these cars fell out of use and for many years sat dormant. In the late 1990’s a number of these vintage cars were fully restored and brought together to become the Royal Canadian Pacific – North America’s most exclusive luxury train.
The Royal Canadian Pacific consists of 10 Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) 1920’s era business cars coupled to two 1950’s locomotives all of which have been restored to their original splendor. Period furniture, silver settings, brass accents, walnut paneling and open vestibules are the pinnacle of a bygone tradition of elegance. Subtly add modern amenities the discerning traveler would expect, complimented by gourmet cuisine , fine wines along with unsurpassed hospitality and you are presented with the Royal Canadian Pacific.
THE BUSINESS CARS
Canadian Pacific’s passenger cars were custom built in Montreal at the CPR Angus Shops. This facility, initiated in 1902 by William Van Horne, then President of Canadian Pacific Railway, allowed CP to build their own rolling stock.
The passenger cars that make up the Royal Canadian Pacific are beautifully re-finished and fully restored to their original splendour. The Mount Stephen car, named after CPR’s first president, was originally built as the CPR Director’s day car. This car was also used to host a number of Royalty and dignitaries for Canadian tours.
Today, as the tail-end lounge or “observation” car, the Mount Stephen is the hub of activity for Royal Canadian Pacific. The Craigellachie dining car, a refurbished 1931 sleeper, was named for the location of the driving of the last spike of the transcontinental railway. This beautifully finished car seats a maximum of thirty-two guests for meal service, and can be configured as a meeting room for corporate clients.
The Strathcona, Van Horne and Royal Wentworth were all business cars built by Canadian Pacific expressly for it’s senior executives in 1926 and 1927. These cars feature a lounge area, a dining area, staterooms and open vestibules. The Banffshire (1926) and the N.R. Crump (1930) sleepers provide Royal Canadian Pacific guests with luxury accommodation in private staterooms.
All guest rooms are equipped with modern conveniences including a private three piece en-suite, plush bathrobes, and an in-room safe.
These days, the train is available only as a whole-train charter. If this kind of service really interests you, I found only a single site that put this service into a monetary perspective:
From the Luxury Train Club website: (edited)

Edited and produced using Cyberlink PowerDirector 15 Ultra.

N.B.The photographer and cameras did not encroach on the line of the right-of-way in taking this video. It is dangerous, foolhardy (and illegal) to enter on railway rights-of-way. Just sayin' ... You don't stand on a runway to watch airplanes.

Beautiful Luzern (Switzerland): Farm house with animals near our home place
One thing which I especially like when thinking of my home town Luzern (Lucerne) in Switzerland is that its living quality is so extremely high.
Living, working and spending my free time in one and the same city is something which I know to appreciate. Being within plain nature just within a few minutes away from my home is surely one part of it, as this video shows. It takes us a few minutes by bus, bicycle or even on foot to find myself together with my wife in a green area with farm houses and animals. The animals seem to like our visit ;-)

This was Day 1 of my trip to Ghana - searching out amazing Ghanian, West African food!
So I wasn’t totally sure all that I was doing - but this is part of the reason I love traveling and going to places I have never been before - it gives you the chance to learn, and try new things.
Heavy-Do Chop Bar - First restaurant we stopped at in Accra, is Heavy-Do Chop Bar, don’t you love the name? Now a Chop Bar in Ghana is a local style restaurant, oftentimes in a home-like compound or in the backyard. This place is quite well known in Ghana, and they are known for a reason, their food is incredible. I didn’t know it until eating there, but one of their specialties is omo tuo, which are Ghanaian style rice balls, eaten with a variety of different meats and soups. I ordered the rice balls with palm nut soup and red fish. It was insanely delicious!
Lolonyo Tilapia Base (Duncan's Pub) - For dinner on my first day in Accra, Ghana, we headed over to a legendary place to eat grilled tilapia. The actual restaurant is called Lolonyo Tilapia Base, but most people know it as Duncan's Pub, which is right next to the fish spot. In the evening, people come here to eat grilled Ghanaian style tilapia, and it’s excellent. Along with the grilled fish, the part I loved the most was the pepper sauce - a chili mix that was extraordinary.
This was just my first day eating Ghanaian food in Accra, Ghana. I learned a lot, and I have a few more amazing West African food tours of Ghana coming up!

Bangkok to Bhutan - AMAZING First Bhutanese Food Meal in Thimphu! (Day 1)
►Subscribe for more videos:
Bhutan Food and Travel Guide - Day 1: My wife and I flew from Bangkok to Paro, Bhutan on Druk Air. We landed in Paro, and it was about an hour taxi ride to get to Thimphu, which is the largest city in Bhutan, and where we were going to base ourselves.
After getting settled into the My Bhutan house, we headed out to the Thimphu Farmers Market, a local produce market.
Bhutanese food lunch at Kalden Restaurant - For my first ever Bhutanese food meal, we headed over to Kalden Restaurant, a local restaurant in Thimphu. We ordered ema-datse, which is the Bhutanese food national dish of chilies and cheese, plus a number of other cheese dishes, which we ate over rice. It was an amazing first Bhutanese meal.
Indian vegetarian food dinner at New Grand Restaurant - We ordered a spread of dishes including aloo ghobi, and one of my personal favorite, chili paneer.
It was an amazing first day, flying from Bangkok to Paro, Bhutan, and then on to Thimphu. I was blown away by my first Bhutanese food meal!

Driving around the Halifax Peninsula (Real Time)
Follow this link to watch a timelapse version of this drive:
This is a drive around the Halifax Peninsula. I tried to stay as close to the water as possible, but didn't take a right off Upper Water Street through the navy base parking lot or off Barrington through the Halifax shipyard on North Marginal Road. The drive features both suspension bridges spanning the Halifax Harbour: the Angus L. Macdonald Bridge and then the A. Murray MacKay Bridge. Africville Road is taken off Barrington and features a nice view of the Bedford Basin, passing Africville Park and Museum, and then the Fairview Cove Container Terminal. Bayne Street leads onto the Bedford Highway (Trunk Highway 2, north) and then Joseph Howe Drive is taken to the Armdale Rotary. The drive then goes up Quinpool Road (Trunk Highway 3, east) until Connaught Avenue and Jubilee. A right is taken onto Oxford Street and passes the University of King's College and Dalhousie University's ocean sciences campus and Shirreff Hall residence. The drive continues onto Beaufort Avenue until Inglis Street and into Halifax's South End, passing Saint Mary's University. A right is then taken at Tower Road and over the railway bridge which leads into the VIA Rail station and Halterm/Halifax Port Authority. Another right is taken onto Pinehill Drive to Francklyn Street, which passes the Atlantic School of Theology before making a left onto Point Pleasant Drive right into Point Pleasant Park. The last stretch of the video features Marginal Road passing Halterm and through the Halifax Port Authority, then finally ends on Lower Water Street where the video begins.
Note the bad condition of the roads after this exceptionally bad winter. Potholes are surprisingly normal for the time of year, but the there is a total lack of paint in some places. Also note the remains of the yellow centre line on Lower Water Street from before it was converted into a one-way street.
