Baie-Comeau is a city located approximately 420 kilometres north-east of Quebec City in the Côte-Nord region of the province of Quebec, Canada. It is located on the shores of the Saint Lawrence River near the mouth of the Manicouagan River, and is the seat of Manicouagan Regional County Municipality. 1. Daniel-Johnson Dam Baie Comeau
The Daniel-Johnson Dam , formerly known as Manic-5, is a multiple-arch buttress dam on the Manicouagan River that creates the annular Manicouagan Reservoir. The dam is composed of 14 buttresses and 13 arches and is 214 km north of Baie-Comeau in Quebec, Canada. The dam was constructed between 1959 and 1970 for the purpose of hydroelectric power production and supplies water to the Manic-5 and Manic-5-PA power houses with a combined capacity of 2,596 MW. The dam is 214 m tall, 1,314 m long and contains 2,200,000 m3 of concrete, making it the largest dam of its type in the world.The dam was named after Daniel Johnson, Sr., the 20th Premier of Quebec who was responsible for starting the project while being minister in Duplessis' government. Another inaugural visit on the Disney Magic's Canadian coast cruise! Baie-Comeau welcomed us with the local junior hockey team! We enjoyed a hike around the nature reserve and experienced the beauty of the untouched nature!

GGC - 15 - We finally reached Newfoundland and Labrador!

Part 12 of our road trip across Northern Quebec and Eastern Canada. We finally finish our drive up route 389 from Baie-Comeau to Labrador City, and in doing so, cross another province off our list: Newfoundland and Labrador! Along the way, we also saw a huge Iron Ore Mine in Fermont, Quebec.

GCC - 14 - Forest fire and the ghost town of Ville de Gagnon, Quebec

Part 11 of our road trip across Northern Quebec and Eastern Canada. Continuing our drive up the 389 from Baie-Comeau to Labrador City, we explored the remains of a forest fire and stumbled upon the ghost town of Ville de Gagnon.

Part 9 of our three-week road trip across Northern Quebec and Eastern Canada (the Atlantic Provinces). On our drive up the 389 from Baie-Comeau to Labrador City, we spent the night in a road-side pullout to watch the most incredible northern lights imaginable!

Trans-Labrador Highway: (Day 6/6) Labrador City to Quebec.

Season 1 Episode 162 (September 15th 2016): leaving Labrador and driving thru rural Quebec. Drove past world's largest visible meteor crater (Manicouagan Crater) that crashed here 215 million years ago in the Triassic period. Also saw the Manic-5 dam, the world's largest multiple arch buttress dam before we ended up next to the St. Lawrence river in the town of Baie-Comeau, Quebec.
