Places to see in ( San Jose - USA )
Places to see in ( San Jose - USA )
San Jose is a large city surrounded by rolling hills in Silicon Valley, a major technology hub in California's Bay Area. Architectural landmarks, from the 1883 Italianate-style Oddfellows building to Spanish Colonial Revival structures, make up the downtown historic district. The downtown area is also home to the Tech Museum of Innovation, devoted to the exploration of science and technology.
El Pueblo de San José de Guadalupe (literally, The Town of Saint Joseph of Guadalupe) was founded by José Joaquín Moraga in 1777 near the present day intersection of Guadalupe Parkway and West Taylor Street. In 1797, the pueblo was moved to the Plaza Pueblo (now Plaza de César Chávez), around which San Jose grew. And the rest is, as they say, history. True to its location in the heart of Silicon Valley, San Jose is now home to the headquarters of many tech companies such as Cisco Systems, eBay, and Adobe Systems.
There are many different neighborhoods in the geographic area of San Jose that, depending on where you are, you might not know if you're still in the same city. Like most Bay Area cities, San Jose is an expensive place to live -one of the city's few negatives. Some of the hip areas to live these days are in San Jose's downtown area, for those who prefer urban living, or Santana Row for a mixed living, shopping and dining community. You can find vintage California charm in the neighborhoods of Willow Glen and Rose Garden. The woodsy area of Almaden Valley is known for its excellent schools, and Silver Creek is known for its subdivisions of sprawling McMansions. Evergreen is in East San Jose, right at the foothills of the city. Evergreen has some more affordable housing and is very residential. Since it is at the foothills, east San Jose is not as accessible as the other neighborhoods. Evergreen has excellent views of the foothills and many parks and recreational areas. Groesbeck Hill Park is located right in the heart of Evergreen and offers a mile long loop, basketball courts, baseball fields, playgrounds, and hiking trails.
San Jose is also a very diverse city with a high foreign born population, mainly due to the location in the Silicon Valley. The Vietnamese community in San Jose is one of the largest foreign born communities. In fact, San Jose has the highest number of Vietnamese immigrants of any city outside Vietnam. Other significant foreign born communities include Indians, Chinese, Filipino, and Latin American.

San Francisco's Off the Beaten Path Attractions
San Francisco's Off the Beaten Path Attractions - as part of the expert series by GeoBeats.
Hi, I want to share with you some of my favorite off-the-beaten-path attractions in the San Fransisco Bay Area. One of my favorite places to start is actually the San Jose Giants, San Fransisco is known for the wonderful San Fransisco Giants, but their minor-league team is located in San Jose and it is actually a wonderful family activity and believe it or not it is cheaper to go to the baseball game than it is to go to the movies these days. There are so many fun things for the kids to do between every single inning, and at the end they get to run the bases. So it makes a really fun afternoon outing with kids.
Another fun place is Los Gatos, they have the Vesona Park, which has a wonderful train Billy Bob railroad, they have a lake where you can rent boats and go sailing, and paddle boats, and then they also have a carousel, and of course a wonderful park where you can picnic. It is a beautiful, beautiful spot that a lot of people do not know about, especially if you have smaller kids and you want to do something fun with them. Let them go on a train ride, let them ride the carousel, get some popcorn, have a picnic, and spend a wonderful day at the lake.
Close to Los Gatos is the Santa Cruz Mountains. Everyone is familiar with Santa Cruz and the Santa Cruz Boardwalk, but up in the Santa Cruz Mountains is Roaring Camp which is another great train that children love to take and it is in the beautiful redwoods in the Mountains and its a really fun activity to do with your kids.
Another fun thing to do is when you are heading up the coast, go to Half-Moon Bay. What a lot of people do not know is that you can actually go horse-back riding on the beach, and what a fun thing to do with your family. After you go horse-back riding you can go over to the ritz-carlton and enjoy roasting marshmallows and looking out over the beautiful ocean. But get that horse-back riding in on the beach, there.
Also, up the coast is a little town called San Gregorio, there is the San Gregorio General Store. It is a really quaint, old-fashioned General Store, which is so much fun. One of my favorite things about it is that they usually have live-music playing. All kinds of music, whether it is bluegrass, or country, little local bands come in and play, they have a fireplace going, you can get drinks there and snacks, they have got a really fun shop and they also have a lot of books and toys out on the table for the kids to play with. They are just enjoying the old-fashioned general store, it is a great little hidden spot that we love to go to.
And then one of my favorite things that people often overlook is Stanford University Campus. Having gone to Stanford I know I am a little bit partial to it, but it really is a breathtaking place. It is really fun to go with kids because they can bring their scooters, their roller-skates, there are so many beautiful places to go around on the campus, and also their museum is incredibly child-friendly. They have a gorgeous outdoor Rodin Sculpture garden, so that the kids can run around and touch all the sculptures, and just have a really fun day outside.
I also think it is a good idea to get kids excited about college at a really early age, so, taking them to a fun, university campus and saying that college can be fun is a great way to get them excited for their future. So the next time you come to the San Fransisco Bay Area, be sure to check out some of these fun things you can do, just south of San Fransisco.

Downtown San Jose. Silicon Valley, California

Kid Friendly Restaurants in San Francisco
Kid Friendly Restaurants in San Francisco - as part of the expert series by GeoBeats.
Here are some of my favorite kid-friendly restaurants in the San Francisco Bay area. The first place to start is in Sausalito at a wonderful restaurant called Fish. It is located just north of San Francisco, and the restaurant is right on the water, so you are ride by all of the boats and you can sit out on picnic benches, and they have the most amazing seafood. They also have, if your children do not like fish, they also have pasta and other items, as well. But the food is amazing, sitting out and watching the boats could not be more fun for the kids, and with the outdoor dining, the kids can run around a little bit, and everyone can enjoy the sunshine and have a great afternoon. The one little tip about Fish is it is cash only, so be sure to bring some cash and not just your credit card.
My favorite place to eat with my son is the Ferry Building. There are so many different options there that he is certain to find something that he loves every time. Again, we like to eat outside. We can walk right outside the Ferry Building - he can watch the boats, he can check out the bridge, there is so much for them to see. So again they can enjoy a great meal and they can enjoy all that San Francisco has to offer with the beautiful water and the bay front there.
Heading down south from San Francisco, probably my favorite spot to take my son to eat, is called Bucks. It is located in Woodside. When you step inside of Bucks, you step into another world. Every inch of the walls and the ceiling is covered with so many different objects - I cannot even really describe it. It is almost like a museum. There is just so much cool stuff for the kids to look at everywhere. They can go on scavenger hunts. Bucks has a great history because a lot of really big Silicon Valley deals were made at Bucks, and when you actually go there, it is not a formal, kind of business restaurant at all. It is incredibly kid-friendly, great food for the kids, and a great atmosphere, a great staff. It is a really special place, and everyone I have sent there has absolutely loved it.
In that same area, in Silicon Valley, there is a great little cafe at the Stanford Museum. It is kind of a hidden gem in there where you can get great items to eat and again, I love eating outside with my son, and the museum cafe is right adjacent to a wonderful grass area so the kids can run around after they eat and you can enjoy your lemonade outside, and it is also right next to the Rodeo Sculpture Garden so the kids can run around, look at the art, touch the art, and enjoy a great sandwich, salads, and wonderful treats at the cafe there at the Stanford Museum.
A little bit farther south, just about an hour south of San Francisco, is the Los Gatos Farmers' Market, which is held every Sunday. It is the best place for Sunday brunch. We go there all the time. What is great about the Farmer's Market is, like most farmers' markets, there is obviously lots of yummy fruits and vegetables that you can pick up. There is also the famous crepe maker who is there, wonderful Mexican food you can get. If you prefer to get a bagel or something like that, the nearby cafes, you can pick those items up.
And then the farmers' market is located right next to a little park that has fountains where the kids can play in the fountains, you can do a wonderful picnic, and it is a real gathering spot for families in Silicon Valley on Sundays, so grab your picnic blanket, bring the kids, and come on down. What is great about it is it is all year round, so you do not have to wait for certain parts of the year to come down. So come down any Sunday and join us. I hope you enjoy eating with your kids all over the San Francisco Bay area.
